Therefore, we are going to go back and recap some of the best players from the first half of our season. In this specific article, we will be covering five prospects that are making most of their shot attempts from behind the three point line.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Addy Johnson Addy Johnson 6’0″ | C Westwood | 2024 State IA and Westwood High School are coming out of break on a mission. To start off this season, Johnson is holding her own and producing at a high rate because of it. She is currently averaging 59.1% from behind the arc and 65% from the field in general. She also is leading her teams with 7.6 rebounds per game. As you can tell, Johnson is quite the player. Someone that is going to give you a little bit of everything, all while standing with superior size compared to most at 6’0. After this season, Johnson will be suiting up at the D2 level to continue on her basketball journey. I think that she is the type of player that is going to produce wherever she is, so it’s only a matter of time until we hear her name called out a few more times, just next time possibly being at the next level.

I have said this for a few years now and I am going to continue to say it until she graduates. When you take into consideration things such as size, coordination, balance, footwork, and consistency, Averie Lower Averie Lower 5’11” | SG Clear Creek Amana | 2026 State IA is the best shooter throughout the State of Iowa, regardless of grade-level. Lower and her CCA Clippers team have started off this season with a bang. They have beaten several highly ranking teams going into the break already and they are only going to get better as the year progress on. As for Lower, she is producing from all over the floor but her best ability in my opinion is how well she shoots the basketball. Throughout her teams first eight games, she is shooting 58% from beyond the arc and 64.5% from the field in general. When you pair this with the success her team is having, you can tell that it’s already been a great season in a lot of ways. If all of their stars can continue to produce at the level they are right now, while they continue to hold their own defensively, we will be seeing the Clippers in Des Moines at the State tournament at the end of the season.

There is a lot that I can say about Aili Tanke Aili Tanke 6’0″ | SG Johnston | 2024 State IA and how she plays on the basketball court. Ever since I have been watching her compete, she has been consistent shooting the ball. Doesn’t matter where from or the circumstances of the game, if she gets a clean look in open space, that ball is most likely going into the basket, more times then not. I’ve said this before but it seems to me that whenever I look at Tanke’s stat line, she is 6-10 or 7-10 from beyond the arc to lead whatever team she is playing for. I think that this speaks to the ability that she has at any given moment. To start off this season for the Dragons, Tanke is doing her usual and leading her team at an elite pace. Throughout their first 10 games, She is shooting 54% from deep and 55% from the field in general. These seem like high numbers if you aren’t used to Tanke’s game but they are not. She is going to produce like this all season long and I expect that to translate to her Freshman season next year at Iowa State. Her game is good enough, she just needs the opportunity and she is going to be able to show off what she can do.
Avery Wilson Avery Wilson 5'10" | CG Sioux Central | 2026 IA
Avery Wilson Avery Wilson 5'10" | CG Sioux Central | 2026 IA
Every season, themes seem to emerge at this time of the year. This season’s theme is production. Production is something that can’t be overlooked or under-appreciated in today’s game and the production that Avery Wilson Avery Wilson 5’10” | CG Sioux Central | 2026 IA is having for Sioux Central High School needs to be touched on. Wilson is leading her team in PPG with 18.4, while shooting 55.6% from deep. She is raking in 4 rounds per game and she is dishing out 2.5 assists per game. When you add this all together and include that her team is 8-1 coming out of the break, it’s note-worthy. Sioux Central has emerged this season as a team to know. They are making noise already and I’m hoping they can keep it up. They seem to have a “three-headed monster” in Wilson, Bradi Krager Bradi Krager 5’8″ | SG Sioux Central | 2024 IA , and Morgan Christian. If those three can keep doing what they are doing, it’s going to be a season to remember for the Rebels.
Maria Freed
Maria Freed
Maria Freed and Wahlert Catholic have started off this season with a 9-1 record and they are looking to continue with the momentum over these next few weeks. Freed, a 5’8 Combo Guard, has been one of the main pieces to her teams success so far this season. She is averaging 11 PPG on 48% shooting from the field and from the perimeter while being a stout defender. There are several positive things I could say about Freed but I think the most important is that she just needs to continue being confident. When she plays with some confidence, she is a different player. She makes things happen and leaves it all on the floor each and every contest. That’s something we can all respect, no matter what point of view you may have.
