Ally Schimel Ally Schimel 5’10” | CG Corbett | 2024 State OR returns as one of the absolute stars at the 3A level. She led Corbett to a second place finish in the state a season ago, and after returning all but two players, she and the Cardinals are already off to a 5-0 start in a difficult preseason schedule that includes tough road wins against Amity and Astoria (who they have beaten twice this season. Schimel dropped a whopping 36 in the season opener in only three quarters of play, and went on to have 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals against Astoria, which is a typical stat-line for her. At 5’10”, Schimel literally plays everywhere on the floor for the Cardinals, from handling the ball and knocking down shots from deep to banging it up for rebounds on the inside.
Cabine, who is committed to play at Vanguard University next season, is another talent to keep an eye on in her senior year. She is an impressive athlete and the center of Westside Christian’s offensive execution with the ability to easily stroke multiple shots from three-point range, finish at the rim in traffic, and find her teammates for wide open looks. She and the Eagles are off to a good start, sitting at 3-1 with her putting up big numbers in their games thus far, and they have some big tests coming up in their preseason play that will allow Cabine’t talent to shine.

Crystal Sanchez Crystal Sanchez 5'2" | PG Riverside | 2024 State OR
Playing in the talented Eastern Oregon League, Sanchez is one of the elite 3A point guards in the state. Through Riverside’s first six games, she is averaging 17.3 points, nearly 3 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. That included a 19 point performance against Irrigon. As the Pirates’ floor general and leading scorer, Sanchez is a great athlete with elite quickness and demonstrates a high basketball IQ whenever she is on the floor. She has helped lead Riverside to a great 5-1 start and they are looking like a team that could compete for a deep run at the end of the year.
Saralynn Grove
Saralynn Grove
Coming off of a great sophomore season, Saralynn Grove is already asserting herself as players to watch in the state at the start of her junior campaign. She had 25 points — including three 3-pointers — 8 rebounds, and 5 steals in their win over North Douglas, and has been one of the leading scorers and rebounders for the Warriors in each one of their games. Although her size allows her to mix it up down low, Grove has great hands and athleticism (and clearly she can shoot from outside) which gives her the ability to stretch the floor for Amity.
Gretchen Orton
Gretchen Orton
Orton, another talented junior to keep an eye on, has been the leading scorer and a leader in other ways for Jefferson so far this year. She scored 19 in their close loss to Regis in the season opener and led the way with another 19 points as they won the the Harrisburg Tournament against Blanchet Catholic. She is a crafty guard who is everywhere on the court for the Lions, who are off to a great 4-1 start on the season. Orton’s game is extremely skilled and appears to only be getting better as she continues to play.

Danika Richardson Danika Richardson PF South Umpqua | 2026 State OR is one of the 3A power forwards to watch out for in 2023-24. She had a whopping 18 points and 15 rebounds in their game against Rogue River, and shows the potential to average a double-double this season. Only a sophomore, Richardson is apart of a young South Umpqua squad that will grow a lot this season, and she will undoubtedly continue to grow herself while her game and in the process, her game will become more and more fun to watch.
