The following individual stood out to me as names everyone should know as the season heats up. Do NOT sleep on these basketball players!
Kiyanna Blacks-Stewart Kiyanna Blacks-Stewart 6'0" | PF Camden Catholic | 2025 State NJ | 6’1″ C | Paul VI
The way Kiyanna imposed her will was a sight to see! She didn’t shy away from contact, in fact, she embraced it. Her aggressive nature and physical post play was impressive. She attacked the glass and used her size and length to pull down rebounds. Her ferociousness around the rim helped create second chance scoring opportunities for her team. An emerging rim protector extraordinaire, at times, she was downright dominant.
Jayah Curtis Jayah Curtis 5'9" | SG Montclair Immaculate | 2026 State NJ | 5’9″ SG | Montclair Immaculate
Jayah was electric at the Jersey Shore and showed why she’s one of the best two-way guards in her Class. Her silky smooth stop-and-pop mid-range game was hard to stop and she was explosive off the dribble. She kept a low and tight handle, weaving her way through traffic and finding the hoop. She was 100% committed on the defensive end, locking down and applying pressure around the perimeter. Jayah’s suffocating ball pressure caused a flurry of turnovers as opponents could not dribble past her or move the ball freely or comfortably.
Rhyan Wyatt | 5’5″ PG | West Orange
For a freshman to burst onto the high school hoops scene and be fearless and unfazed playing national powerhouse Rutgers Prep is awe-inspiring. Rhyan put her head down and went to work, attacking the lanes to find any opening and driving inside with zero fear. She was confident in her play-making abilities, whether it was facilitating and finding open players or finding herself an open look to get a shot. A solid perimeter defender, she was locked in and focused on trying to make life miserable for the ball-handler.
Leah Crosby Leah Crosby 6'1" | SF Rutgers Prep | 2025 State NJ | 6’1″ SF | Rutgers Prep
I had several coaches ask me if I’m familiar with Leah’s game because of how impressive she was this weekend. Her energy on both sides of the ball was unmatched! She was tenacious on offense, scoring the ball at will and showing off next-level footwork and an effective step-through move to get around defenders. Her versatility coupled with her size and speed made her a match-up nightmare. She easily took smaller defenders off the bounce and skated past bigs on her way to the hoop. She brought the fire and intensity game after game.
Chloe Escanillas Chloe Escanillas 5'10" | CG Rutgers Prep | 2024 State NJ | 5’10” CG | Rutgers Prep
The Marist commit was clicking on all cylinders. She got her shots off comfortably and effectively and was an absolute sniper from 3. Her release seems to be EVEN QUICKER than when I saw her last in July, which is wildly impressive. She executed perfect post-entry passes and facilitated wonderfully. Although Chloe is well-known for her loaded offensive arsenal, her commitment to playing scrappy, blue-collar defense is extremely commendable. She dove for 50/50 balls, tied up opponents for possession and never shied away from contact. Tough as nails!
Isabella Pedone Isabella Pedone 5'5" | SG Saddle River Day | 2025 State NJ | 5’5″ SG | Saddle River Day
Whenever Isabella has the ball in her hands she is a dangerous scoring threat. Her confidence handling and shooting the basketball was quickly noticeable, as was her lethal 3-point shot. She ran the floor hard and showed off her high motor that simply would not quit! She used effective ball fakes to create space and get around defenders, utilized set screens and blew past opponents with quick, sharp cuts to the basket. A total fireball and burst of energy!
Tessa Liggio Tessa Liggio 5'7" | PG Red Bank Catholic | 2026 State NJ | 5’7″ PG | Red Bank Catholic
Against national juggernaut Dr. Phillips (FL), Tessa proved that she belonged! Strong handles and an explosive dribble drive made her tough to contain. She drained 3-pointers in rapid succession and really showed that she can score it efficiently at multiple levels. One of the best defenders I saw all weekend long, Tessa stalked and scrapped on defense and forced a multitude of turnovers. Once she swiped the ball, she put her speed on full display as she took it the other way for 2.
Saniyah Spell Saniyah Spell 5'8" | CG Trenton Catholic | 2024 State NJ | 5’8″ CG | Trenton Catholic
Tough, gritty and relentless, Saniyah showed why she’s one of the seniors everyone should have their eyes on. She got buckets in a number of ways, but it was from deep where she really scorched opponents. She combined a high basketball acumen with raw skills to outwork, outplay and outsmart her opponents. She is a workhorse with a never-say-die attitude who just oozes confidence!
