After releasing a look at the top ten and the next nine debuters it is time to turn the spotlight toward the final 9. The final 2024 class rankings update will appear in March. Now get to know the next nine..
Braylin Kelly Braylin Kelly 5'10" | PF Norwich | 2024 State KS , 5’10”, PF, Norwich – Entering at #209 is this returning Heart of the Plains first team selection. Kelly brings legitimate size and length a Eagles team that finished fourth in last season’s 1A Division I state tournament. And while she handles well enough to attack from the wing or in transition what sets her apart is her consistency as a three point threat.
Jordyn Fleckenstein Jordyn Fleckenstein 5'10" | PF Golden Plains | 2024 State KS , 5’10”, PF, Golden Plains – Fleckenstein is a active, attention drawing forward not only was selected to Western Kansas Liberty League’s second team but also earned KBCA and Varsity Kansas 1A Division II honorable mention honors. She debuts at #210.
Aubrey Pond Aubrey Pond 5'7" | CG South Haven | 2024 State KS , 5’7″, CG, South Haven – Pond should be fun to watch as the Cardinals look to improve upon a class 1A Division II state tournament first round exit. In averaging 9 points per game she showed herself to be a solid three point threat off the catch. She also showed athleticism and extension on finishes. Debuting at #212 the South Central Border League first teamer also was a KBCA and Varsity Kansas honorable mention selection.
Abigail Slocum Abigail Slocum 5'4" | PG Hugoton | 2024 State KS , 5’4″, PG, Hugoton – Slocum, after years of playing with a strong triumvirate of teammates now off playing Division I and II ball, is a the most experienced returner for a team that went that made deep runs in the 3A and 4A state tournaments the past three years. She also returns after returning a substantial portion of the 2023 season due to injury. At tournament to start this 2024 season she showed quickness, composure, and the ability to score the ball. She debuts at #213.
Auburn Hill Auburn Hill 5'7" | PG Chaparral | 2024 State KS , 5’7″, PG, Chaparral – HIll is a returning Central Plains League honorable mention selection with substantial potential. So much so that McPherson College has landed her to play college ball next season. She enters at #215. Her underlying talents will be fun to watch as they get honed. At Hutchinson Trinity last week she showed quick hands, speed with the ball, savvy to use the glass, athleticism, and smarts to recognize when to exploit defenders.
Bella Rader Bella Rader SG Marysville | 2024 State KS , SG, Marysville – It has been a couple years since I have seen Rader but the North Central Kansas League first teamer has shown herself to be a solid shooter when she gets her feet set. She also transitions solidly to get scores and, defensively, anticipates well off-ball to disrupt ball reversals. Rader debuts at #216.
Makenzie Yoder Makenzie Yoder 5'10" | PF Eudora | 2024 State KS , 5’10”, PG, Eudora – Entering the ranks at #222 Yoder brings solid speed, quickness, and a power forward build that enables her to finish through contact. She is a returning Frontier League honorable mention selection.
Rachel Swift Rachel Swift 6'1" | C Shawnee Heights | 2024 State KS , 6’1″, C, Shawnee Heights – My colleague Jeremy Deckard has written over the past month about Swift’s reach, movement, and interior scoring ability. A long, angular player she uses her size and defensive quickness effectively as a shot blocker. She debuts at #223.
Emery Ruliffson Emery Ruliffson 5'6" | CG Manhattan | 2024 State KS , 5’6″, CG, Manhattan – Against Millwood (OK) in start of the season tournament game Ruliffson impressed me with how effective she was passing the ball. Repeatedly she found open teammates and used a variety of passes to get them the ball. Debuting at #224, Ruliffson also showed transition speed and effectiveness defending in the half court.
