First, let’s start with Princeton & Greenbrier East! Princeton won 53-46. It was nice to see Governor Justice still on the sideline coaching! I played a lot of games against Coach Justice. I guarantee that the great basketball mind that Coach Justice has will have his team ready to bounce back after this loss! A big congratulations to the Princeton squad for battling and coming out with a win.
A few notable prospects:
Maddie Stull Maddie Stull 5'9" | PF Princeton | 2024 State WV was stellar! The post player put on quite the performance! Maddie finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds. I won’t be surprised if Stull continues to put up numbers like this throughout the season. A great inside presence that can also step out and knock down the outside shots!
Kalee Wright Kalee Wright 5'7" | SG Princeton Senior Highschool | 2025 WV finished with 9 points on the evening. Wright continues to impress by being all over the hustle stats! If there is a 50/50 ball, my guess is that Wright will get it! The way that Kalee impacts the game is so much more than only scoring the ball!
Asia Collins takes on the task of guarding the best player every single game. I know Princeton is extremely happy to have this guard on their side! John Stockton said it best, “Defense is all about heart and desire. You have to want to play defense and you have to want to stop the other team.” Collins is going to try her absolute hardest to stop you and 99% of the time, she will! Asia Collins is one of the best defenders!
Mackenna McClure played a good all around game. McClure finished with 12 points and numerous rebounds. Despite the loss, Mackenna gave it her all to try to help lead her East team to a victory. This sophomore shooting guard is definitely one that you don’t want to leave open. When her feet are set, count it! A good, fundamentally sound athlete with an extremely high ceiling!
Kennedy Stewart Kennedy Stewart 5'5" | PG Greenbrier East | 2026 State WV finished the game with 12 points. Stewart is a good ball handler that attacks the basket great! When you watch Stewart play, you will not think that she is a sophomore. An extremely athletic guard that can score in bunches. Kennedy does not need a lot of space to get her shot off and she can definitely drill the 3 ball with range! Keep your eyes on this guard because she is going to have a huge high school career!
Last, Woodrow Wilson won a thriller against Pikeview. Beckley won 39-37.
Josie Cross Josie Cross 5'10" | PF Woodrow Wilson | 2025 State WV is one of the most versatile athletes that I have watched play! Extremely gifted & athletic! When you see Josie on the court for the first time, she passes the eye test immediately. Great size and length! Cross finished with 13 points on the night. I don’t think anyone was surprised that she hit the game winning shot either! She is a complete all around athlete that can score at all 3 levels. She filled an entire stat sheet with steals, blocked shots, assists, and the list goes on! College coaches should be all over this one!
Somalia Nelson Somalia Nelson 5'11" | PF Woodrow Wilson | 2024 WV finished the night with 10 points and numerous rebounds. Nelson provides her team with a strong inside presence. Woodrow has a nice inside play with Nelson and Leiloni Manns in the post! Manns finished the night with 8 points and numerous rebounds.
Sarah Hopkins definitely deserves to be mentioned! Hopkins laid her body on the line for her team and took a charge at one of the most crucial times of the game! After she takes the charge with less than 2 minutes in the game, Hopkins scores a 3! If you are looking for the epitome of a teammate, you will find that in Sarah!
Haley Justice was the leading scorer for the Panthers with 13 points. Despite the loss, Haley did a good job in the post! Justice finishes good at the rim! When Haley has her back to the basket and receives the ball, you know that she is going to turn and score. She does a great job understanding what the defense gives her and when to go up strong! Keep your eyes on Justice and the rest of her Pikeview team!
The four teams above all have talent on their squads! Good luck to all of these teams as the season continues!
