Continue ReadingThroughout the class of ‘27, there are a lot of hidden gems that are waiting to be discovered. However, it is only a matter of time until these under the radar prospects will be coming onto the scene. Some sooner than others, but you better believe that these names will be mainstays and big time contributors to the success of their ball clubs.
Each year, these precious diamonds will be uncovered. With the ‘27 class and their newness to the high school ranks, it may take a few games in order for them to get their footing. Once they get it, you better believe these girls will be ready to hoop and tip the scales in their favor. Now, writing such an article as such has a lot of possibilities. The ladies on this list have been polishing their game throughout the summer and early on in the high school season. They won’t be under the radar too much longer, but for now and for the sake of this article, let’s just say they are.
Check out these young hoopers. Like I said, they may be under the radar now, but they’ve been located and put on notice as big-time contributors for their ball clubs for years to come.
Danae Kennedy Danae Kennedy 6'0" | SG First Assembly Christian School | 2027 State TN (6’0/G/ FACS)– Big guard who can do all things. From handling the rock to shooting from the arc at a high clip, she’s a big problem and her size creates mismatches all over the floor. Offensively, she can attack downhill and finish against contact. Defensively, she can guard, get steals, block shots, and contribute on the boards. She’s a problem for ball clubs because she has both speed and size. Great kid who has a very high ceiling.
Nyla Johnson Nyla Johnson 5'8" | CG Nolensville | 2027 State TN (5’7/G/ Nolensville)– Hard working kid who plays with a motor. Can knife through defenses and finish at the rim. Won’t hesitate to unleash her ability to shoot it from the arc. Prides herself on the defensive end, creating havoc that leads to turnovers going the other way. She also does the extra effort plays: loose balls, diving on the floor, getting into jump ball situations. Great kid who is turning heads of not only high school coaches, but collegiate coaches as well.
Blake Maple Blake Maple 5'8" | CG Lipscomb Academy | 2027 State TN (5’8/G/Lipscomb Academy)– Solid guard who can play with the ball in her hands or without. Blake can score it on all 3 levels, but it is her passing ability that sets her apart. She’s a technician on offense and doesn’t get frustrated against pressure. She makes timely passes to open teammates and finishes when her number is called. Defensively, she isn’t afraid to guard the other team’s best player, making it a mission of hers to eliminate the opponent. Solid kid who has a bright future.
Tatianna Woods Tatianna Woods 5'6" | PG Memphis School of Excellence | 2027 State TN (5’6/PG/ Memphis School of Excellence)– Shifty guard who is bursting onto the high school scene. She uses her speed and quickness to create chaos on opponents. Her ability to slice through defenses is amazing, as she gets the “And 1” opportunity. She hustles on D, getting loose balls and steals by the bunches. This season, she has done nothing but score the rock at a consistent clip, averaging 20 ppg. Great kid who has tremendous potential.
Allye Pennington Allye Pennington 5'6" | PG East Robertson | 2027 State TN (5’6/PG/ East Robertson)– Sharpshooter who is just a pure hooper. Has a little sauce in her game, she can get downhill unleashing a nice floater. However, her bread and butter is from downtown, where she doesn’t hesitant to pull from afar. Allye is a gamer, matter of fact a game changer. She brings so much energy to the court and she plays hard on both ends, and each possession. Her ability to create is out of this world and she dazzles those who watch her work. This kid can fill it up and look for her to continue to get better and turn even more heads on the way towards accomplishing great feats.
Charity Relliford Charity Relliford 6'0" | SF White Station | 2027 State TN (6’0/G/ White Station)– Athletic dual sport athlete who is blessed with both speed and size. She can get to the rim attacking from the outside. She can play in the paint, shoot it from the mid-range, or step back and drain it from the arc. She’s a hustler, who can get steals, block shots, and gain rebound. A tough competitor who hands her hat on defending. Being a pest and creating pressure on D is something she does well. Anticipates well and finds herself in the right spot at the right time. Solid prospect who plays out of her mind and goes at you every single possession. Look for her to grow and become an even bigger problem for opponents.
Malea Masingale
Malea
Masingale
5'10" | SF
McMinn Central | 2027
State
TN
(5’10/SF/ McMinn Central)– Focused and determined. She’s a dual sport athlete who competes her tail off. Right now, she’s still filling out her role on the club, but I expect her to bust through the seams any minute now. Malea can shoot the rock from the arc with ease. However, her size is what creates problems as she contributes in getting steals, clogging lanes, getting rebounds, and so much more. She plays with a motor and is clutch when her number is called. Look for her to be a problem down the road, especially during tournament time. She comes from a basketball family and hoopin is in her DNA. Solid kid who is poised to do great things.
