I saw them take their first loss of the season a few weeks ago, but was enthusiastic of individual play. The Pearland team has several pieces to fuel them, and these pieces range in classifications. Many sophomores are getting quality playing time, which means gaining experience that will payoff in the post season and beyond. I’m looking forward to seeing this gritty, athletic team with size again at the end of district play.

Smith imposes her will on both ends of the floor. She is a beast in the paint, snatching rebounds over bigger opponents or causing chaos. Loose balls are all her’s. Watching her play, you can see the flaming desire in her eyes. She has a beautiful stop and pop pull-up jumpshot. She is a reliable weapon of a player.

Jaylynn provides size on the perimeter. She has a nice release on her catch and shoot. She also can attack off the dribble, and combines a quick first step with her size to to attack the paint. I liked how efficient she is with the ball. She’s not dribbling just for the sake of it. She isn’t playing east to west. She’s going 288 South to the basket. This is an impressive big guard with even more potential as she still has time to mold her game.

Ingram is a monster rebounder! She is undersized forward but not to be underestimated in the paint. This is a player that does not shy away from physicality. I watched her knock down two opponents while boxing out after a free throw shot. She is not necessarily a back to the basket drop step post, but definitely a player you can send in to help clean up on the boards.
Ford’s frame will immediately catch your eye and she plays with the same strength. The next thing that caught my attention is that Ford is a rebounding guard! She’s currently leading her team in rebounds. She is unafraid to bang in the paint. She has a really subtle attack to the basket, and is very smart with her pivot foot to find teammates or pivot for an open shot.I saw her take a charge, bounce back up, and energize her team. Ford still has room to work on more ball control, but it’s exciting to think about what skills she will unlock in the very near future.

Journey Lovett
Journey Lovett
Lovett is an effortless 3-point shooter. I saw her come off the bench and provide a boost for her team with two back to back made 3-pointers. What makes her shot unassuming is that she doesn’t immediately put the ball in the shooting pocket when she catches it. This makes her defenders play honest, as she may pass or attack. She also has a solid step back shot in her repertoire. Once she starts consistently following her shot, she will be even more of a threat. With her length, she plays the top of the zone on defense, and I saw her cause several turnovers.
