Here is a look a prospects who caught my eye in Hayden’s loss.
Brylee Meier Brylee Meier 6'0" | PF Hayden | 2025 State KS , 6’0”, PF, Hayden, ‘25
Meier had the best overall game for the Wildcats in the loss. She is currently ranked in the No. 21 slot in the PGH rankings for Kansas athletes in the Class of 2025. Meier finished with a team-high 14 points. She is a beast in the lane but needs to be more confident when she gets the ball. I hate to use the word, but she almost panics when she first catches the ball. She can drive and work her way to the basket, but it needs to be right off the catch. She shot 4-of-10 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Meier had a team-high six rebounds and works hard on both ends. Meier can get position and convert on lob passes to the paint.
Lauren Sandstrom Lauren Sandstrom 6'1" | CG Hayden | 2024 State KS , 6’1”, CG, Hayden, ‘24
Sandstrom is the highest-ranked Hayden player in the Class of 2024 coming in at No. 49. Sandstrom did not play her best game of the season only scoring four points and fouling out of the game. She seemed rattled by Emporia’s pressure defense and just never got settled on the offensive end during the loss. She has committed to play college basketball for Rockhurst.
Avery Grunert Avery Grunert 5'6" | PG Hayden | 2024 State KS , 5’6”, G, Hayden, ‘24
Grunert is a scrappy defender who can score. She scored 12 points for the Wildcats and hit two 3-point field goals. She is more of a role player for the Wildcats but is currently ranked No. 127 in the Class of 2024. Grunert plays with a chip on her shoulder which I like, but she needs to park her temper at the curb. She committed an unnecessary intentional foul late in the game. Grunert is a legit golfing prospect and more likely to go down that route for college competition.
Norma Greco Norma Greco 5'4" | CG Hayden | 2025 State KS , 5’4”, CG, Hayden, ‘25
PGH Kansas has Greco ranked No. 90 in the Kansas Class of 2025. She is a solid point guard who takes good care of the ball. She handled Emporia’s pressure defensive well enough, but she also had a couple of early fouls called on her that got her a little off her game. She scored five points on 2-of-4 shooting from the field. She made one 3-point field goal and had three assists. Greco has good court vision and probably projects as a pass-first player for an NAIA program.
