Seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshman, and 8th graders, we have hoopers that can just flat out play. We also have specialists who are very good at doing one thing. They might be a dawg on defense, a sharpshooter from the arc, a low block anchor, the list goes on. I couldn’t help myself and asked area coaches in Middle Tennessee, who are some hidden gems that have yet to be uncovered?
Daloni Brown (5’6/FR/PG/Independence)– Just moved in from Texas and is ready to take the area by storm. Extremely athletic kid. She is a lockdown defender who gets after it on the defensive end. She’s a great on ball defender who takes calculated risks. Offensively, she can pull it from 3 and attack the gaps. She will be a huge asset to the Lady Eagles program because it gives them a ball handler and someone who can create and open up shots for their perimeter shooters.
Charley Rae Hutchison (5’7/8th Grader/SG/ Columbia Academy)– Much anticipated arrival of this 8th grader is met with a resounding joy. She’s a heady ball player who plays the game with a passion. A multi-level scoring threat, she is going to get it done not only on the offensive end, but contribute on the defensive end as well. Plays with speed, determination, and grit. The kid will add a huge jolt to the Lady Bulldogs team.
Amiyah Thompson Amiyah Thompson 5'6" | SG MTCS | 2025 State TN (5’7/Jr./CG/MTCS)– Will be debuting soon for the Lady Cougars ball club after sitting out most of the year. When she is eligible, look for her to come in and help add to the Lady Cougars guard play right away. She gives them a ball handler that can pressure the defense, giving their shooters open looks on the perimeter. She too can shoot it from the arc, but can get down hill and finish at the rim. A great two-way player who will come in and look to add valuable to a steady Lady Cougars ball club.
Ianaya Young (5’5/Jr./PG/ Shelbyville Central)– Solid PG who has a great feel for the game. She sees the floor well, attacking gaps that lead to an easy lay or a timely kickout. She can pull-up with ease, or hit the 3 ball if necessary. She brings the energy on D, going toe to toe with her opponent. Solid kid who is primed to finish out the year strong.
Marshawna Ridley (5’10/CG/Jr./ Marshall County)– Long and lanky, she can go inside or attack from the perimeter. She knows how to use her body to her advantage. Displays a high basketball IQ, picking out open spots to exploit and attack her opponents weaknesses. If she is inside from the field or on the arc, Marshawna displays a sweet stroke that finds the bottom of the net. She contributes on both ends of the floor. Solid prospect who is showing out this season.
Lily Maggert (5’6/ Sr./G/ Friendship Christian)– Call her a Commander and chief. She is a fierce leader who competes every night on the floor. She’s been doing it for awhile, but it’s time to give her those flowers. She can go inside and finish at the rim or unleash a sweet stroke from the arc. She plays with a lot of heart and determination and will do anything to help uplift her ball club. Solid kid who is capping off an outstanding high school career.
Lane Smith (5’10/8th Grader/F/ Lipscomb Academy)– Young kid who is playing some big-time minutes for the varsity basketball club. She has been solid coming off the bench, providing a spark for the Lady Mustangs team. She has a nice back to the basket game, using her strength to muscle through opponents. Can she it from the elbows and wings, will also occasionally spray it from deep. She is a monster on the boards and competes on the defensive end. Thrown into the fire this year, look for her to be a solid foundational block for years to come for the Lady Mustangs program.
