Continue ReadingMilton is off to a great start of the season starting 13-2 and is currently ranked number 22 in the state. They were on an impressive ten-game winning streak before dropping a game to Lambert but bounced back in a 26 point win against West Forsyth. After watching them play I expect for them to continue to rise in the rankings as the season progresses.
Milton is a very scrappy team on defense diving for every loose ball active on the glass on both sides of the ball. They do a great job pressuring the ball handlers up the court which lead to fast break opportunities. Their active and aggressive defense leads to many careless passes by opponents.
Their disciplined defense indicates great coaching. They are aggressive on the defensive end but not out of control. Also, they are excellent at playing solid defense without fouling. In addition, Milton does a good job playing passing lanes without getting out of position as well as helping and recovering on defense. Even if they aren’t able to get a steal their constant pressure still leads to turnovers. Multiple times they would cause the ball handler to step out of bounds or get a 10-second violation.
On the offensive end, Milton girls are very unselfish, consistently cutting off screens to get open looks at the basket. They have a good chemistry with each other constantly communicating on both sides of the ball. Their press leads to outlet passes down the court on transition. They do a good job sharing the ball and allowing everyone to play in rhythm. They are led by their backcourt duo of Nya Smith Nya Smith 5'10" | SG Milton | 2024 State GA and Londyn Walker Londyn Walker 5'8" | PG Milton | 2025 State GA . Both of these players have a high IQ and can play on or off the ball. As a result, this is the main reason Milton is off to a great start of the season.
Nyla is a very quick and agile guard. Impressively she is fast on her feet while staying under control when driving to the rim to finish or draw contact and end up at the free throw line. She has a good balance of outside shooting and downhill drives. Nyla is also very active on the glass for a guard as she leads the team in rebounding. She is a true stat sheet stuffer doing everything her team needs to win.
Londyn is the second-leading scorer and extremely active on defense. She has a great feel for the game leading the team in assists, she is always finding the best shot for her team without forcing anything. She does a good job playing at a controlled pace and creating contact at the basket on her drives. Her soft touch at the basket along with the ability to knock the open shot is a great combination.
Highlights
The freshman gives them a good spark. Deyva plays with tremendous energy that fits in well with the team on both sides of the ball. She can knock down the open shot and is aggressive constantly looking to make a play for her team. She gives it her all on her defense diving for loose balls and grabbing rebounds. It will be interesting to see how her game develops as she gets older and more experienced in the program.
Highlights
She hustles every play and is in constant communication with her teammates. Although Caroline is a sophomore, she is one of the captains on the team. Her activity on both sides of the floor is a huge positive for this team as she grabs rebounds to start the break and second chance opportunities for her team. Caroline provides good length to reach in passing lanes and get steals.
Chassity adds another dynamic to the team. Although she is not as fast on break, her post-play is great as she uses her advantage to score over smaller players. She also does a great job protecting the paint and grabbing rebounds at an efficient rate.
