Mya Wesley drops 47 as Top 100+ has several UNSIGNED remaining
In this article:
Under The Radar is a term I have been using for, well ever and I’ll never forget an out-of-state club coach saying”Well I have UTR players also” but common sense would tell even the novice that MOST players in the country are UNDER THE RADAR and with the countless platforms, the number of games on the abundance of courts, it’s virtually IMPOSSIBLE for next level coaches to see everyone, simple math combined with what I started with, common sense
If you are fortunate enough to be seen, you have a window to show what you can do so I always emphasize don’t use that window to do things that don’t make sense. like selfish play, back-and-forth banter with teammates, opposing players as well as coaches, and please, stay away from any physical altercations but these are things that you should have been told or figured out on your own
Here are some UNSIGNED SENIORS that shouldn’t be
Wesley caught my eye years ago yet her traveling 200 miles to my camp and “setting it off” was a prime example of placing yourself in a position to be seen. She also stood out again at the PGH Top 250 Showcase and made my SHOOTERS Tip Sheet so it comes as no surprise that she has been putting up numbers this season, against RANKED teams, “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” is what I go by. Speaking of “go by” her deceptive first step coupled with nice body control enables her to finish strongly after contact but her mid to mid to long-range game is also solid as she broke her record of 46 set earlier this season, in fact she has had multiple 40 point plus games in her senior year
Pepp is one of those players that just makes things happen and observing her before high school, her comprehension of the game sold me, well plus she was a “long and athletic” guard that applied heat on both ends. Her playing all club season on a sprained ankle speaks volumes yet she never complains about whatever situation she’s placed in. She can control the tempo and facilitate or flip the switch and take games over because her first step, in the set as well as in transition is a problem, so is her pull-up jumper but when you factor in her court vision and being able to thread the needle, that’s huge, so is her defending and playing the passing lane. Latest Tip Sheet from Spring Creek Mansfield Invitational
Martin is an explosive guard off the dribble that understands how to set the defender up multiple ways. She has nice body control, finishes strongly after contact while being off balance yet she also does a good job hitting teammates while driving. Her court vision in the set as well as in transition is also solid, so is her pull-up jumper. She also does a good job defending “on the ball” plus she plays the passing lane well
Ben is one of those “never takes a play off” type of player and has the ability to change the momentum of a game from either end. Her intensity on the defensive end is among the best as she dives for loose balls, which is #THROWBACK and plays the passing lane. She rebounds against taller players and can go coast to coast to score or dish yet her pull-up jumper in transition is a big plus, along with her attacking and finishing in the set
Spencer is for HIRE and her comeback after being out last season is showing she’s ready for whatever. She too is a “long and athletic” guard and watching her smoothly set up the defender to take off the dribble, with either hand, and finish the same way, with either hand is one of the things that first attracted me to her game. Her mid to long-range is solid, so is her defense and she plays the passing lane
Highlights
Hernandez has proven over and over again that #sizwedontmatter when you can play and watching her drop 40 against a shoe team a while back showed me so much about this talented guard. She’s tough and doesn’t back down, on either end and watching her use a deceptive first step to attack and finish is just as impressive as seeing her show her quick release and drop the long ball with a hand in her face. Yeah, her “catch and shoot” is also nice, but so is her court vision
