Just two games took place in the first round of the NJIC Tournament on Wednesday, a relatively light day on the girls basketball calendar in New Jersey. We still got some good action, high-scoring teams and good performances overall. Here are some of the standout players from the first round of tournament action.

[player_tooltip player_id='601348' first='Mia' last='Vergel de Dios'] - Glen Rock (2026)

Sometimes, it's not the flashiest games that get the most attention, but consistent performances from solid players who have had big impacts for their team. Enter [player_tooltip player_id='601348' first='Mia' last='Vergel de Dios'], Glen Rock's standout sophomore talent, who sunk a pair of threes, scoring eight points in a dominant win over Elmwood Park. She's seemingly improved across the board and is averaging over 10.0 PPG this season, a welcome sign.

[player_tooltip player_id='601403' first='Angelica' last='Do'] - Leonia (2026)

Wednesday ended up being a blowout loss for Leonia, a 20+ point blowout loss at that, but as has been the case on so many occasions this season, Do was the difference-maker for one of the better teams in the NJIC. She shot 6-of-8 from the foul line, finishing with 14 points, her 18th game scoring in double-figures this season. It's incredible to see what she's been able to accomplish, averaging 16.4 PPG for Leonia as a sophomore.

[player_tooltip player_id='407040' first='Alyssa' last='Craigwell'] - Secaucus (2024)

When in doubt, call on [player_tooltip player_id='407040' first='Alyssa' last='Craigwell']. She embodies the words playmaker, superstar, elite-level talent. The years might change, but for the past three, she's been insanely good, and on Wednesday, Secaucus looked to her to take care of business against Leonia. Craigwell did just that, recording an impressive 24-point, 12-rebound double-double en route to a 28-point victory. It's her ninth double-double of the season and second-straight.

[player_tooltip player_id='662072' first='Mia' last='Cruz'] - Secaucus (2024)

Secaucus definitely needed a second person to be able to step up for this season, and Cruz has been that person on many occasions. A great sign for short-term success for this team, she had one of her best high school performances to date, hitting 3 three-pointers and scoring 19 points for the Patriots along with three rebounds, two assists and four steals. Really impressive all-around performance for the guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='835219' first='Dani' last='Daproza'] - Leonia (2027)

We definitely saw some freshman moments from Daproza on Wednesday, as to be expected with someone still really learning the ropes at the high school level, but once again, she had a great overall performance. She finished with 13 points, her 19th-straight game scoring in double-figures for the Lions and just in her first high school season, she's scoring 17.6 points a game and dominating the competition.
