Monday January 29th I attended the 2A clash of #1 Phoenix Country Day heading to Scottsdale to take on #19 Rancho Solano Prep.

The top team came out fast and built a 22-8 lead with hot shooting from [player_tooltip player_id='582389' first='Madison' last='Gordon']. PCD extended their lead in the 2nd quarter behind [player_tooltip player_id='443661' first='Olivia' last='Owens'] and [player_tooltip player_id='582391' first='Aila' last='Kaibara'] to give them a 40-9 halftime lead. They had running clock in the 4th quarter and ended up winning 61-16 with their starters barely playing any minutes in the second half.

[player_tooltip player_id='443661' first='Olivia' last='Owens'] Phoenix Country Day

One of the top girls in 2A and in the state showed off for about two and half quarters of play. She has extended her three point shooting since my last viewing of her off the catch or off the dribble. She is still an elite downhill player and a top on-ball defender. She can also post up, crossover her defender into a pull-up and make plays for her teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='582391' first='Aila' last='Kaibara'] Phoenix Country Day

Another junior dynamo took the lead role and was facilitating for her teammates all game long. She started it all on the defensive end and would rip their pockets and and make the pass that led to the assist. She plays smartly off the pick and roll game and always seems to know when to shoot it or pass. She rebounds well in her area and can shoot it from all levels.

[player_tooltip player_id='582389' first='Madison' last='Gordon'] Phoenix Country Day

The sniper of the team is clearly Gordon. She will set the screen and come off of it ready to fire away. Her catch three is clean with a quick release. She seems to be in the right spot on the break and will score in transition or make a play.

[player_tooltip player_id='582392' first='Rylie' last='Llyods'] Phoenix Country Day

A good sized guard is becoming their glue guy this season. She is defending on the ball and collects steals. She will rebound and is a smart passer into the post. She can hit from mid-range with pull-ups and can blow by her defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='846849' first='Erin' last='Patterson'] Phoenix Country Day

A bigger sized soph guard who can score. She can dribble drive to the basket and shoot the catch three. She handles the ball fairly well and can handle some defensive pressure. She makes smart reads and will make up the court passes.

[player_tooltip player_id='846850' first='Elsa' last='Termansen'] Phoenix Country Day

A bigger post player with real size. She moves well from end to end and can defend in space. She is an inside scorer and rebounds well. She is one of their future pieces in the top notch 2A program.

[player_tooltip player_id='808081' first='Zoey' last='Pozen'] Rancho Solano Prep

The point guard for the Mustangs is Zoey. She can handle the fierce ball pressure and dribble drive to the basket. She can hit perimeter jumpers, but is a little streaky. She loves getting downhill and almost seeks the contact and can score thru it.

[player_tooltip player_id='659946' first='Nenah' last='Brown'] Rancho Solano Prep

A power forward is their heart and soul of the team. The lefty is a physical forward who defends well in space. She rebounds and plays tough inside the paint. She can rip thru to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='1154423' first='Josephine' last='Mushahwar'] SF 5'6 2026 Rancho Solano Prep

A versatile wing forward can score inside the paint. She will dribble drive to the basket and isn't afraid of the contact. She gets herself to the free throw line and can defend both forward spots.
