Continue ReadingAs we tip off the girls high school season throughout Nebraska, there are going to be a few new articles/evaluations that we publish every week during the season, that we have not done recently in the past. One of those articles being our MVP Of The Week and Players Of The Week.
The MVP Of The Week is an individual that displayed what it means to put on a major performance/s for their perspective squad throughout the week. Someone who came out firing on all cylinders and dominated in more ways than one on the hardwood while putting up an eye-opening stat line.
The Players Of The Week are other individuals that were in consideration for the MVP of the week but fell just short in the end when taking into consideration all outlying factors.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!

- 1/11/24 @ Lincoln High – 26 Points (10-16), 16 Rebounds, 4 Steals, 4 Blocks
If you have been following along this season or any season prior over the past couple of years, you know about Doneelah Washington Doneelah Washington 6’1″ | C Lincoln Northeast | 2024 State NE and her game on the basketball court. Washington is a dominating force inside the lane. She is player that all teams need to game plan for. If they don’t, it could end up being a rough time. Honestly, even if they do, it could still be a rough time because of how much of a mismatch Washington is on the high school floor. She has the ability to work her opponent inside the lane, at either block, 15 ft and in or from the perimeter. She also demonstrates on a regular basis that she can make free throws at a high rate so fouling her isn’t going to help you much. Against Lincoln High on Thursday evening, Washington scored 26 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, poked away 4 steals, blocked 4 shots and her team won 54-36 because of it. This moves the Rockets to an overall 10-2 record with 10 more games remaining for their regular season schedule before the Playoffs begin. If any team wants to beat these guys, they will have to find an answer for Washington because up until this point, it hasn’t happened yet.

- 1/9/24 @ Louisville – 12 Points (6-9), 3 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 5 Steals, 2 Blocks, 1 TO
Fort Calhoun has put together a 9-4 record throughout their first 13 games this winter and they aren’t going to start slowing down now. They are looking to continue their success the rest of this regular season and have that carry into the Playoffs. A player that recently led this team to a solid victory was Senior, Bria Bench Bria Bench 5’10” | SF Fort Calhoun | 2024 State NE . Bench was a powerful force near the painted area in her teams 15+ point win on Tuesday night against Louisville High School. She ended the contest with a game high 12 points on 6-9 shooting from the floor, while also grabbing 3 rebounds, and recording a handful of other positive stats as well throughout the evening. Bench is the second leading scorer on this team and their leading rebounder. If the Pioneers want to continue to have that success we hinted at early on in this paragraph, Bench is going to have to step up and continue this production. Something that is very do-able at this stage in the season.

- 1/9/24 vs Boyd County – 20 Points (5-16), 6 Rebounds, 6 Assists, 4 TO’s
The Ainsworth Bulldogs were just too much offensively for Boyd County in their last contest this past Tuesday. If you check out the box score from this game, the Bulldogs had 12 more attempts on the offensive end then the Spartans and that is because of how good their defense was from the starting tip. Their leading scorer throughout this contest after the final buzzer was Freshman, Gracyn Painter Gracyn Painter 5’6″ | PG Ainsworth | 2027 NE . Painter is a 5’6 Combo Guard and she really lives up to her position’s name. She is a prospect that currently has the ability to move between the 1 and the 2 spot but I would say her natural position is at the 2. Offensively, she is a ball-dominant scorer but someone that isn’t afraid to pass if things get cluttered up. Defensively, she is tenacious on the boards and relentless in her pursuit for the basketball. During any given contest, until Painter hears that ref’s whistle, she is going to continue working every chance she gets. That was on full display this past week and has been throughout the first half of her Freshman season so far.
- 1/10/24 vs Palmyra – 24 Points
Myleigh Weers and her Diller-Odell team may have fallen this past week to Palmyra High School by a final score of 49-48 but that doesn’t change the fact that Weers was a standout star in this contest. In a game where the Griffins only scored 48 points, 24 of those points were from their starting Point Guard and I’m not surprised. I had the chance to watch Weers in-person this past offseason and she is a heck of a competitor. I would describe her game as aggressive but calculated. She makes some great choices with the basketball and is elite in the fields of creating/scoring at the rim. All things considered, this is not going to be the best stat line that Weer’s will have the rest of this season. She may attend a smaller school but don’t let that fool you, she would start anywhere throughout the state if she were to transfer. When speaking about some of the best performances we saw last week, this was definitely one of them.

- 1/12/24 vs Hi-Line – 14 Points (7-10), 10 Rebounds, 4 Steals, 1 TO
The Arapahoe Warriors are sitting with a 7-7 record after their win on Friday against Hi-Line High School, 64-24. In this victory, the player that stood out the most for the Warriors is their Power Forward, Cadence Carpenter. Carpenter may only stand at 5’8 but she has a high motor and a good head on her shoulders. Throughout her teams first 14 games this winter, Carpenter hasn’t been her teams leading scorer but instead, their leading rebounder underneath the basket. Each contest, she is bringing in 9 RPG while also recording a handful of other stats along the way. This Warriors team has some producers at every position. They have multiple players that can take over at any given moment and in this game, that player just happen to be Carpenter. Looking forward, I’m not sure what the future holds for this group but I’m glad to see they have put together a respectable season up until this point. As for Carpenter, whatever she puts her mind to, she is going to succeed at. She just needs to stay locked in.
