Rainey Welson Rainey Welson 5'9" | CG Hortonville | 2025 State WI
From watching Welson over the past few years, I always knew she was probably the best kid in her class. I’m not sure any other 2025 could’ve led that 2021-22 Hortonville team in scoring other than Welson, leading them to an undefeated FVA record. However, what she did in Hortonville made me love her game even more. She scored 35 points, 18 of the Polar Bears’ first 20, and every time they needed a play to cut into a Neenah lead, end a scoring drought, or close the game, Welson did it herself. None of her baskets came with an assist from a teammate. She did everything off the dribble, and nobody could slow her down. She’s getting to a level that few have ever reached in Wisconsin.
After losing a two-time state championship nucleus, Gomez has stepped in as the Lasers’ primary scorer and done a fantastic job. The lefty is shooting the ball at a high level from the three-point line, getting into the paint to score herself or find open teammates, and she’s got the flair and creativity to make something out of nothing. She’s earned respect from everyone around the Classic Eight and has become a kid that teams must prepare for.
Eve Gricius
Gricius has become the most physically imposing lead guard in the Classic Eight, and she’s been successful in every aspect of the game as a senior. She’s shooting the ball as well as ever, probably leading her team in scoring and assists, and is setting the tone at the point of attack on the defensive end. Gricius had been an inconsistent shooter in the past, but that seems to have corrected, and it’s made her one of the most dynamic scorers in the Classic Eight this season.
Macie Neumeister
The Luther wing is a kid who’s impressed me this season without seeing her play in person. I’ve watched a few streams of Luther’s games, and I loved how she impacts the game in multiple ways. Her best attribute is her energy in every possession. It’s common to see her go the extra mile to make plays few others would even attempt. She can shoot it a little and has a quick release, but if she wants to play at the next level, I believe she’d be a player coaches would love to have.
Last season, Leffel was a wildcard for Kettle Moraine Lutheran. Leffel’s been more dependable and been the Chargers’ best player some nights. She looks more physical, which has made her jumper more consistent, but she’s kept her athleticism. She still has her lateral quickness and ability to create space with a spin or left-to-right crossover, and most importantly, she looks confident.
