Shae has proved herself to be a very well rounded player. Where she may not be leading games in scoring or popping out in that category on the box scores, she is leading the entire state at all levels in one specific category, one of the categories that shows toughness. She is leading the state in charges taken per game, as well as top 10 in the state in assists and top 25 in the state in steals. She’s proven to be an incredible effort player, pair that up with her offensive skill set, being able to score, see the floor and make plays not only for her score but for her teammates as well. Shae has started off hot, with big games like Skyridge’s win against Herriman where she scored 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 0 turnovers. A week before that game she had another breakout performance in win against Highland where she had a double double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 8 steals and only 1 turnover. Shae has been nothing short of impressive so far this season.
Fuifuilupe has been CRUSHING it so far this season with a season/career high of 42 points in her season opening loss against a tough green canyon team. Niumeitolu can do it all. She can score from all over, at the rim, in the mid range, from beyond the arc. She hit 6 three’s in that first game but had a 24 point game the next week against granger where she didn’t have any. She is best getting to the rim and using her size. She’s strong and quick and has a unique but effective skill set! She’s dominated so far averaging 27 Points per game over the first 5 games and is sitting at 21 Points per game and shooting an impressive 57% from the field. Leading her hawks to a current 7-2 record at break.
Elina has been an absolute force this season for Corner Canyon. She has posted some of the more impressive stat lines this year and almost all of her biggest performances come in games her team ends up winning and in their losses they are all within 6 points or less. She is undoubtedly one of the most athletic girls in the state with her vertical jump as well as her aggression chasing down the basketball on rebounds and steals. Her vertical leap gives her the ability to raise over defenders for her jump shot but also to get to the rim fairly easy and finish. Some of her biggest moments this season include a blowout season opener against Green Canyon where she had a double double scoring 28 points and had 15 rebounds, she’s had multiple other games with 20 plus points and 10 plus rebounds but her most impressive double double of the season may have been in a win over Hunter where she recorded 14 points, 6 rebounds and 10 steals. Elina has been on a tear, looking forward to seeing what she does in region play.
Addy has been on a scoring tear this season. She has started her senior year hot so far, in her situation she carries a big load offensively for the pioneers this season. Keeping her team above .500 currently with a 6-5 record she’s only had one game all season where she’s scored under 16 points and 0 games where she’s scored less than double digits. Make no mistake, addy is more than just a bucket getter, she has a very good feel for the game and has been phenomenal on the defensive end averaging 2 steals a game with multiple games with 5 steals or more. She’s been solid on the boards as well averaging 4 of those a game. Some of her best games include her 29 point outburst in a gritty win against a very solid Bingham team shooting 67% from the field and another impressive performance against Desert Hills where she dropped 24 points and 3 steals in a solid victory. Currently sitting in the top 10 in the state in points per game at 9th, Addy has a chance to lead Lehi to a successful second half of their season.
Kalysa Ng
Kalysa Ng
Kalysa is one of the players on this list who kind of came out of nowhere. She has been HUGE for Hunter this season. Kalysa is a pest on defense as she was leading the state in steals through the first 4 games of the year averaging 7 and is still averaging an impressive 3 steals per game this far into the year. Kalysa’s game is very mature, she doesn’t need to do too much with the ball, just puts it down one way and goes. While she can hit the open 3, her game finds its most success when she is going downhill to the cup to either finish or get to the free throw line. She is another player who can still impact the game even if she isn’t scoring well. For her size and position she is a solid rebounder and pretty good playmaker for her teammates, she showcased that best in a big win over Hillcrest where she had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and an impressive 10 steals! 1 bucket shy of a double double, another couple spotlight games were against Crimson Cliffs where she had 19 in a close win, as well as another 19 points in a close loss to Cottonwood. Kalysa will need to continue to push for Hunter to find some more success in region play.
Definition of a double double machine! Extremely dominant player! Starting the season strong, Rochelle had a huge game in a nice win against East her first game of the season scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 steals with 0 turnovers in a near double double. While Rochelle is an efficient 3 point shooter most of her field goals come in the mid range and in the paint. She has a nice handle for the forward position and good size so she can guard multiple positions. She’s an elite defender and rebounder and has shown this with multiple occasions recording 10+ rebounds and 5+ steals in the same game! A couple more of her spotlight games include her outburst in California versus a good Rocklin High School team where she went for a 22 point 11 rebounds double double with 0 turnovers with the W, as well as another huge game against a good Maple Mountain team where they lost but she fought hard and put up 27 points with 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. Right now Rochelle is averaging a near double double at 17 ppg, 9.2 rpg, and 4.2 steals a game, West Jordan is sitting in a solid spot at 6-3 and with a continued stride by Manuma they could make a huge push in region play.
Highlights
Maia is a BUCKET! One of the players in the State who can just get going and put the ball in the hoop! She has made a tremendous jump from junior to senior year going from averaging roughly 5 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal to this season so far averaging 16.7 points, 3.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.7 steals a ball game. Big jump in every category and it shows more than just on the stat sheet! Maia is a 3 level scorer who can get to her spots and more than just scoring she makes plays for her teammates. Some of her best moments this season came early on in November in her blowout performance against a very good Spanish Fork team where she went off for 21 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals in a great win. She had another big game against Wasatch on the 9th of this month in a tight win where she contributed 23 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 steals. Maia will need to continue to ball out for Corner to make a run for the title.
Chloe has proven herself to be one of the best 3 point shooters in the entire state. She’s been off to an incredible start through the first half of the season shooting one of the highest percentages in the state. Currently she is shooting 44% from the perimeter at almost 6 and a half attempts per game, so she is really shooting that ball at a high level. One of the notable stats that sticks out from this season is that she hasn’t played in a single game this entire season where she hasn’t made a 3 pointer, actually where she hasn’t made at least two 3’s which is an incredibly hard task as a known shooter! Chloe balled out against a solid Dixie roster in a great win before the break going 5 for 9 from the perimeter and finishing that game with 21 points and chipping in 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Killed it on Friday the 12th of January with a very efficient 16 point game shooting 4 for 9 from 3 and getting her team the W against a very good Skyridge team. Chloe has been ballin!
