Fast forward to now, you have a new breed that’s actually getting out there and LOOKING and OBSERVING at players not only across the country but playing on countless platforms, so I know it’s hard yet I admire their GRIND with #NoAgenda so all I know are the 3 players from Texas, here ya go
Carlton caught my eye years ago and when I wrote my first article on her, her dad said I was wondering when you would mention my daughter and I responded ” your coach doesn’t turn in rosters” which we laugh about today. Well I probably didn’t say it that way because I’m continuously perplexed at why something so simple isn’t done yet not only was Justice ahead of the pack, she continued to rise, no help was needed from any self promoters trying to take credit. What I enjoy about her game is that she transformed from a dominant “back to the basket” player, hands and footwork and drop step are among the #THROWBACK things she showed but she worked on her outside game and showed she could not only drop the midrange, but the long-range as well. Solid rebounder that can handle the ball afterward and go coast to coast to finish
Roberson steadily climbed the ladder and she too was initially a back to the basket decoy when I first caught her yet she was playing up on a talented squad led by her older sister. She’s long and athletic, which is the base, her timing is next-level ready as she comes out of nowhere to block, alter and (or) deflect shots yet what I really like is her mobility with the ball. Yeah, she has nice moves around the basket to finish with ease but her attacking from multiple angles and elevating over defenders is very nice. She also can drop the midrange, you’re probably not going to block it at this level yet her defense, both inside the paint and outside of it are solid, so is her playing the passing lane. Icing on the cake was leading her team to a state championship at the highest level last season and a chance to do it again
O’neal’s name preceded her, yes she Shaq’s daughter, yet I missed her last season when I covered an after Thanksgiving event but I made a special trip to catch her at the Girl’s Texas TABC Showcase. Her versatility coupled with her size is an attraction for the next level because she understands how to create her shot on the outside while being defended and can actually drop it not only from midrange, but long-range as well. I also enjoyed seeing her handle the ball in the open court after rebounding and being able to go coast to coast to score, or assist, yes her court vision is nice, all spoke volumes. She has the college ready body, she finishes around the basket after contact and does a good job defensively
