We're always on the lookout for fresh faces, those newer prospects who have the potential to make an impact going forward. With five games on the docket, Monday's MLK Day Classic at St. Catherine University provided opportunities throughout the day to identify some up-and-comers, and we saw Cloquet, Champlin Park and Osseo live for the first time this year. Here are a handful of the top newcomers from Monday's event in St. Paul.

[player_tooltip player_id='905454' first='Teshaya' last='Anderson'] – 2025 guard , Osseo

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='905454' first='Teshaya' last='Anderson'] was among those who caught our attention early at the 2024 MLK Day Classic. The 5'8 guard showed off her versatility all game long, playing on the wing and attacking the basket, as well as crashing the boards in the post. Teshaya's hustle and athleticism allows her to often grab rebounds over larger opponents. She showed off her ability to score at multiple levels, draining shots from outside and aggressively attacking the basket. She racked up a number of points in the contest by consistently finishing around the rim. On the defensive end, Anderson has quick hands and correctly reads passing lanes in order to get steals and transition buckets. So far this season she is averaging 10.9 points per game, and is the team's third-leading scorer behind senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='350110' first='Jaelyn' last='Choi'] and junior forward Nevaeh Torma.

Lauren Hughes – 2026 guard, Cloquet

The youngest player on the floor for the Cloquet Lumberjacks on Monday, sophomore guard Lauren Hughes had a season-high performance that made us take notice. She scored a team-high 15 points in the matchup against Holy Family, draining shots from outside, attacking the rim, and getting to the free throw line. Lauren plays with a high basketball IQ, she sees the playing surface well and consistently makes good decisions on the floor. We were impressed with her lack of fear and her willingness to drive through contact, even with 6'1 Butler commit [player_tooltip player_id='322999' first='Jocelyn' last='Land'] waiting in the paint. While the Lumberjacks had a hot 8-0 start to the season, Monday's loss to the Fire marks their seventh in a row. Their next opportunity to correct the course will take place on Friday against Hibbing.

[player_tooltip player_id='897885' first='Josie' last='Reckelberg'] – 2028 guard, Becker

We have had the opportunity to see the Becker Bulldogs a handful of times so far this season and the young squad continues to impress with each game we watch. Yes, it is a rebuilding year in Becker but the future looks like it might live up to the many past successes for coach Dan Baird's program. The Bulldogs had a tough opponent on Monday, going up against Goodhue – one of the top small-school teams the state. Despite the loss for Becker, we did find some fresh faces to take note of. For example, 8th grade guard [player_tooltip player_id='897885' first='Josie' last='Reckelberg'] has seen enhanced minutes as of late, and it seems her value on the floor is increasing. Standing maybe 5'2, Josie is a tiny guard with lightning quick feet. She defends the ball with intensity, is a solid ball handler, and can knock down shots from 3-point range. The 2028 prospect is currently averaging 4.6 points per game.

[player_tooltip player_id='884449' first='Andie' last='Changamire'] & [player_tooltip player_id='897887' first='Tess' last='Brown'] – Becker

Two more youngsters earning significant minutes for the Bulldogs are 7th grade guard [player_tooltip player_id='884449' first='Andie' last='Changamire'] and 8th grade forward [player_tooltip player_id='897887' first='Tess' last='Brown']. Andie is the younger sister to 2028 standout [player_tooltip player_id='630285' first='Adele' last='Changamire']. Listed at 5'9, Andie appears to be taller and longer than her sister, and nearly as athletic. She has an innate understanding of the game and holds her own on the court against opponents much older than her. 2028 forward Brown, who started for the Bulldogs on Monday, stands about 5'10 and has a strong frame for her age. With a lightning fast first step, Tess is definitely a threat on the drive and she is a solid shooter and a strong rebounder. Tess is the younger sister of standout 2023 Becker graduate Ayla Brown now at the University of Sioux Falls.

Two more fresh faces we liked

Two more newcomers who impressed at the MLK Classic were Onyx Odoko of Osseo, and Olutuni Ogunleye of Champlin Park. Odoko is a sophomore forward who stands at about 6'2. She's long, athletic, very agile, and has strong instincts for the game. Onyx made her first varsity appearance on Monday in the Orioles encounter with a powerful Minnehaha Academy group.

Ogunleye is an uber-athletic guard who has a natural feel for the game. She has a high vertical, and uses her length very effectively. Just a 9th grader, Toni is the youngest player in the starting lineup for Champlin Park. We were impressed with her ability to read passing lanes on the defensive end as she racked up at least 3 steals in the first half alone.
