Seeding for the eight sub-states is set for Saturday, February 17. Quarterfinal games will be played February 23. Many teams have put together strong seasons and several players are playing big roles in the push to reach the state tournament. Below is a quick look at some of them.
Jersi Benisch Jersi Benisch 5'2" | PG Wallace County | 2026 State KS , 5’3″, PG, Wallace County, 2026 – Benisch has good speed and quickness. She also shoots the ball with range. Benisch is among the state leaders in steals with 5.1 per game.
Carlie Brummer Carlie Brummer 5'7" | CG St. John Hudson | 2025 State KS , 5’7″, CG, St. John’s/Tipton, 2025 – As the only team with a winning record (11-4) in the Stafford sub-state Brummer has the Bluejays poised for a return to the state tournament. After averaging 15.8 points per game while shooting 40% from behind the arc and 66% from the line a season ago Brummer is putting up 15 points and 4.3 steals this season.
Jaelyn Daily Jaelyn Daily 5'9" | PF Wallace County | 2025 State KS , 5’9″, PF, Wallace County, 2025 – Daily is often the best player on the floor for the Wildcats. She has good speed and improved control with the ball in transition. She also jumps to the ball well and shows athleticism and activeness on both ends of the floor.
Saige Hadley Saige Hadley 5'9" | SF Lebo | 2025 State KS , 5’9″, SF, Lebo, 2025 – The Wolves have the best record in the state with one loss and are the favorite to emerge from the sub-state to be held on their home floor. Hadley is a big reason why. She is a lot to handle for defenders because, with her size and length, of how hard she works in side. She has a terrific back-to-basket game and is among the best at calling for the ball where she wants to catch it. She also unleashes the occasional bomb with a high arch. Smart and heady. The Wolves finished second in 2023 and are gunning to win the title this season.
Sydnie Jones Sydnie Jones 5'10" | SG Bucklin | 2024 State KS , 5’10”, SG, Bucklin, 2024 – For the third year in a row is averaging double figures. At 13.7 points per game she is shooting 35% from three (27 made) and 62% from the line. She is also grabbing 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 rebounds, and dishing out 2.8 assists. Jones is also averaging over a block per game. She shoots with range and has handles to go end-to-end off the rebound.
Anna Jueneman Anna Jueneman 5'8" | CG Hanover | 2025 State KS , 5’8″, CG, Hanover, 2025 – The defending 1A D II state champions are a favorite to repeat and Jueneman is a big part of why. The Wildcats are the only team with a winning record in the Blue Valley sub-state and their four losses came from teams with a combined total of 8 losses – none from a 1A D II team. She is a major source of scoring for the Wildcats. A season ago she averaged 13 points and shot better than 30% from behind the arc.
Tessa Lohse Tessa Lohse 5'8" | CG Hanover | 2024 State KS , 5’8″, CG, Hanover, 2024 – A senior leader for the defending 1A D II state champions Lohse is a career 33% shooter from three point land after shooting 37% last season. She is a major source of scoring for the Wildcats, a team that has not lost to a team in the class.
Audrey Peek Audrey Peek 5'6" | SG Lebo | 2024 State KS , 5’7″, SG, Lebo, 2024 – Peek has long been one of the top 1A players in the state and is driven to capture the state title after finishing second to Hanover last season. A very good shooter she is also well rounded offensively. Very active in the half court teams have a tendency to lose track of her. Defensively she has good footwork and balance to defend attacks from the wing. With one loss the Wolves are the favorite to emerge from the sub-state held on their own floor.
Aubrey Pond Aubrey Pond 5'7" | CG South Haven | 2024 State KS , 5’7″, CG, South Haven – Pond has the Cardinals on the brink of a state tournament appearance. Hosting the sub-state on their home floor the team has locked up the top seed. Pond can shoot the three ball off the catch, read passing lanes to gather steals, and finish with extension and athleticism.
Kamryn Rietzke Kamryn Rietzke 5'5" | PG Thunder Ridge | 2024 State KS , 5’5″, PG, Thunder Ridge – After missing substantial parts of the last two seasons due to injury Rietzke and the Longhorns are positioned to challenge for the Golden Plains sub-state title for a trip to state. The team sits a game behind first place Wheatland-Grinell. Shooting 36% from three (40 made) and 60% from the line Rietzke is scoring at a 15.9 points per game pace. She is also generating 4.1 steals per as well. An aggressive, creative scorer Rietzke sees the floor well and can push pace.
Karoline Schroeder, 5’8″, SF, Wheatland-Grinell, 2024 – The Thunderhawks sit atop the Golden Plains sub-state and Schroeder is a major reason why. After averaging a double-double last season she is only a tick behind that in the rebounding department this season, putting up 14.1 points and 9.9 rebounds. Schroeder is also averaging 2.7 assists and 2.8 steals per. A talented outside hitter in volleyball she has good hops and is a player who just wants the ball.
