Alexander has continued to show that she is more than a back to the basket player. After all, she’s long and athletic, which is and always will be the base and watching her elevate around the basket to score over the outstretched arms of defenders is nice yet she’s doing the same thing, elevating, on her jumper and that too looks good while being defended, with a hand in her face. She’s also moving more fluidly on defense outside the paint, showing she can apply pressure on the ball and that, along with playing the passing lane will be some of the intangibles she’s taking with her to Tulsa
Ross is a player that I have watched turn several corners since I first caught her in middle school. She too was primarily a back to the basket player and mostly a decoy on offense yet her fierceness going after the ball off the rim was intriguing and told me she was going to be a force in the paint with the proper reps because the effort was there. She’s powerful and began scoring with players literally hanging on her in the paint, putbacks included as she rebounded on both ends. She also extended her range and was dropping shots from mid to long yet her timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots has also gotten better as she heads to UTSA next
Atamah caught my eye prior to entering high school and she’s one of those players that are consistently being overlooked and that’s perplexing because watching her perform at the Sandra Meadows Classic right after Christmas, my exact words were “she is a LEGITIMATE D1 PLAYER. She toned up even more, she’s another “long and athletic” player but her “you won’t outwork me” mindset is something you just can’t teach and she shows it consistently as she is a terror in the paint, both rebounding, as well as defending and on top of that, she reads the floor and plays the passing lane
Wesley recently broke her SCORING RECORD and no, I don’t really look at that unless I see the player because I know numbers can be deceiving yet no deception here as she showed me she had elevated her game since I caught her at my All Eyez On Me Individual Showcase and one thing I love is on the court progression. Yeah, she can drop the mid to long range but she understands some very important things like not taking bad shots and knowing how to set the defender up. Her court vision and unselfishness are also huge pluses, and she does good job defending “on the ball”
Hernandez is one of those gems I talk about that are rarely talked about like they should be but West Texas is full of talented players and she’s definitely one of them. She’s long and athletic, one more time, that’s the base and she stands over “the magic number” but when you factor in she has good timing on defense to bloc shots, yeah she alters and deflects them too but she also has the “hands and footwork” thing down to score around the basket as well as face the basket and drop the jumper. She’s averaging a double-double, I’ve had a chance to catch her via Live Stream but she makes things happen on both ends
