For those who don’t know, the Miss Tennessee award honors the best player in each classification (We will have a total of 6 of them: D1-A, D1-AA, D1-AAA, D1-AAAA, D2-A, D2-AA). The award honors the young lady who had the best regular season. Postseasons such as the district and state tournaments aren’t accounted for or are a part of the selection process. It’s purely based on the body of work done from tip-off of the first game to the final whistle of the regular season.
As I mentioned before, I will be doing a deep dive on each prospective class. In this segment, I will be taking a look at the DII-AA finalists. Talk about a stacked field to choose from, I know that it was tough for the committee to come up with a final 3. Though the winner won’t be announced until March 12th, just know the winner truly is one of the best in the state. The DII league is tough and filled with some incredible ballers.
This is part two of a six part series honoring all nominees. Check out the 2023-24 finalists in the D2-AA classification.
Dasha Biriuk (Jr./ 6’1/G/ Webb Bell-Buckle)– This international hooper is lethal. Blessed with great size and length, she brings a smooth game to the table. Confident in her abilities, she can pull up from anywhere on the floor. A multi-level scoring threat, she hits the bottom of the net at a consistent clip. Averaging 18 ppg, 6 rpg, 3 apg, she’s all over the place. She is 51 % from the field, taking quality shots that help propel her club. She isn’t just a scoring threat, but gets after it on the defensive end as well. She has power 5 offers from Maryland, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Louisville plus more. The kid is solid and I come away impressed every time I see her play. Look for her to continue on this upwards trajectory and take the state by storm.
Sydney Mains Sydney Mains 5'11" | SF Knoxville Catholic | 2024 State TN (Sr./5’10/ G/ Knoxville Catholic)– Lawd, she is a baller. For one, she’s a fierce competitor that has overcome a serious injury. The FAU commit is a hooper that is nothing short of warrior status. She can play inside and out, making it tough for opponents to guard her. She’s lethal with the ball in her hands, finding the bottom of the net at a consistent clip. She is a fearless leader, who just wins. It’s evident with how many trips she has made it to the final four (and she has 1 title under her belt.). Averaging 19 ppg, 5 rpg, 2 spg, 2 spg, and shooting 42 % from the 3pt line aren’t statistics to finish your senior season with. With over 1,000+ career points, you know she is a bucket for sure. The Owls got a steal in this Knoxville native and she truly is a great ball player.
Kamora Moore (8th Grade/ 5’4/ PG/ Chattanooga Christian)– Wow. This kid is something special. Only in the 8th grade, she is making waves throughout the state and the country. MoMo gets buckets plus more. She is a fearless kid who competes. I’m going to throw this comparison out there, but think of Allen Iverson. Only the strong survive and this kid is showing up and showing out. Yes she is a 2028, but she is outdoing girls older than her. She’s averaging 24 ppg, 3 apg, spg. What other 8th grader in the state is doing that. A multi level scoring threat who is a phenomenal two way player. She’s going to creating havoc for awhile in these parts. Look for her to continue on this upwards trend and knock down records along the way. Great prospect who still has 4 years of high school ball!
Just missed the cut
Here is another young lady who just missed the cut.
Aubriyana Camp Aubriyana Camp 5'7" | SG Chattanooga Christian School | 2027 State TN (5’7/Fr./CG/ Chattanooga Christian)– One tough kid. A starter since the 8th grade, she is just shy of scoring 1,000 career points. This season she averaged 19 ppg, 5 rpg, 5 apg, 5 spg. Talk about an impressive stat line at such a young age. She is a talented kid who is a pure hooper. A 3 level scoring threat that plays with speed. She can get buckets in multiple ways, but note whatever way finds the bottom of the net. She is a lockdown defender that competes from tip to the final whistle. A special talent, we will be seeing a lot of her throughout her high school career.
