One of the beautiful things about basketball is that how we approach the game is often a reflection of how we approach life (man….things just got deep)–or as my coach used to say: “how you do anything is how you do everything.”
That’s why I am always looking for kids that unselfish in nature, that put the team first, and “have gotten over themselves” as Coach Popovich calls it. Show me a kid that wants to collect assists because they love to watch their teammates thrive. Show me a kid that’s willing to take a charge or dive on a loose ball–sacrificing pain and comfort for a bigger goal.
Jordan White Jordan White 5’4″ | PG Northview Academy | 2025 State TN is one of those kids. The Northview PG’s statline in a district win this week, she had six points, eleven assists, six rebounds and 2 steals. She’s a pass first PG that breath’s confidence into her teammates because you know White is going to make you better. Cut hard….run the floor hard…roll hard….if you’re open, Jordan White Jordan White 5’4″ | PG Northview Academy | 2025 State TN will find you.

Jones was recently mentioned as an under the radar ’27, and she’s beginning to now put together some really impressive stat lines. In a district win over Sprinfield, Jones finished with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals, and 5 assists. Gosh…that’s just impressive for a freshman. 5 assists is a big time number, and she is graded as a plus defender. Keep an eye on Jones and that young Kirwood squad.

Everyone’s basketball journey is different and unique….and then there is Lauren Hassell Lauren Hassell 6’2″ | PF Clarksville Christian | 2027 TN . I don’t talk about her a ton because…well…she’s a national commodity and I speak to a pretty local audience. But, I get pumped about a nice Private vs Public matchup like we got when Hassell’s Clarksville Christian faced off against, and beat, and good Rossview team.
Hassell was dominant. She had 18 points, 16 rebounds, 8 blocks, 3 assists and 2 steals. If you’re curious about how Lauren Hassell Lauren Hassell 6’2″ | PF Clarksville Christian | 2027 TN might fair at the public school level…..she just gave you a pretty loud answer. Well done kiddo.
Paige Blackburn
Paige Blackburn
Blackburn has led the Eaglettes to a 12-8 (1-4), but they’ve struggled a bit in district play. Blackburn has been a really bright light as an unsigned ’24. She poured in 18 points in a big district win over Warren County. With the way Blackburn shoots it, it’s hard to imagine that she shouldn’t be on a college roster somewhere next season.
Charley Rae Hutchinson
Charley Rae Hutchinson
Gosh, I’ve been waiting on writing on this kid as a high school player since this summer! Charlie Rae is ’28 thats a dynamic scorer, and as her middle school season just ended, she was pulled up to the varsity team this week. In helping guide her team to a much needed win on Tuesday, she scored 23 points. Charlie Rae is just different….when you see her you’ll have questions about size and getting her shot off, etc. And then you’ll watch her play. And you’ll see that she’s the type of kid that intuitively does things out of instinct that you just can’t teach. She plays with a shiftiness…with a bounce….with a swagger that’s tons of fun. Really proud of this kid….as she’s also a terrific young lady from a great fam.
DJ Haws
DJ Haws
I’ve had Haws show up in a few talks with coaches, and her play of late is worth mentioning. The junior post recently had a monster double (18 points and 15 rebounds), and stats are simply a continuation of the solid two-way post play she’s given BGA all season. You have to like the player’s returning for BGA next season as we look ahead, and Haws is the type of kid who I’d love to see have a breakout senior year.
Perrin, a ’24, has put together a wonderful career at Karns, and has been particularly productive these past two seasons. She’s come alive as a scorer (along with Rylee Roberts Rylee Roberts 5’7″ | SG Karns | 2025 State TN ) and Reese Roberts Reese Roberts 5’6″ | PG Karns | 2025 State TN , and has been around 16 points a game all season with nice efficiency numbers. On Thursday night, she passed 1,000 points for her career! Congrats on a great achievement kid!
