The rivalry game between Hayden and Washburn Rural, however, did not disappoint as the Junior Blues won a hard-fought 46-44 decision in the final seconds of the contest over the feral Hayden Wildcats.
Here is a scouring report on four athletes from Hayden’s Class 3A squad.
Amelia Ramsey Amelia Ramsey 6'0" | C Hayden | 2025 State KS , 6’0”, C, Hayden, ‘25
This was my first time seeing Ramsey play and the main reason I wanted to watch this contest. She was a hardship transfer who left Highland Park’s program to join Hayden after the first of the year. Ramsey was not playing earlier in the season when I watched Hayden play at home against Emporia. She is still adjusting to a new school, new coach, and new system, but I see why there is quite a bit of hype about her game. She is currently ranked No. 19 in the Class of 2025. Ramsey scored five points in the loss to Rural and brought down five rebounds. I would like to see her look to score more and hit the weight room. If she improves her upper body strength and looks to dominate games offensively should could be a Top 10 talent in her class.
Lauren Sandstrom Lauren Sandstrom 6'1" | CG Hayden | 2024 State KS , 6’1”, CG, Hayden, ‘24
With the addition of Ramsey, I am not sure there is a Class 3A school in the state that has a better frontcourt than Hayden. Sandstrom really impressed me in this game and had a much better game than the one against Emporia. She scored 10 points, collected six rebounds, and had one steal and a blocked shot. Sandstrom is the highest-ranked Hayden player in the Class of 2024 coming in at No. 49. She has committed to play college basketball for Rockhurst. She took a blow to the head in this game and had to come out of the game for a spell, but she returned and played well down the stretch.
Brylee Meier Brylee Meier 6'0" | PF Hayden | 2025 State KS , 6’0”, PF, Hayden, ‘25
Meier led the Wildcats in scoring in both of Hayden’s games I scouted. She finished with 12 points in this contest and converted on all four of her 3-point field goal attempts. She did have an off night scoring from the inside the arch going 0-for-4 on shots inside. She has a solid all-around game as she contributed six rebounds, two blocked shots, and one steal. She is currently ranked in the No. 21 slot in the PGH rankings for Kansas athletes in the Class of 2025. If I was put on the spot I would say her ceiling is probably a small conference Division I or Division II program.
Kaliya Fulton, 5’6”, G, Hayden, ‘25
It was interesting for me to watch Fulton’s play against Washburn Rural, as I honestly don’t remember noticing her at all in the game against Emporia. The Hayden junior scored nine points in this game and was noticeable in the physical contest. She made one 3-point field goal and scored twice from the free-throw line. She plays tough defense but was obviously flustered at times during the game about the officiating. Fulton needs to let her coaches deal with the officials and focus on what she can control if she wants to play at the next level. She is a passionate and skilled player who I feel can compete at the NAIA or JUCO level.
