Heading to Coos Bay next weekend, Adie Nisly and the Warriors have earned the #3 seed with high hopes to come away with a state championship. Nisly, half of an incredibly talented pair of sophomore twins on the team, has been steady for her team all year. She exhibits a high basketball IQ at all times, finds her teammates well, can score in a wide variety of ways, and plays at a relentless pace. Some of her most recent games included 15 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal against Santiam, and 11 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal in the league playoff game against Jefferson. Nisly is one of several players from Amity’s deep roster to keep an eye on next week.
Jocelyn Janecek
Jocelyn Janecek
Don’t count out the fifth-ranked Braves, as the reigning state champions know what it takes to get it done in Coos Bay, and senior Jocelyn Janecek will be a valuable leader in their quest to win it all. Janecek is a do-it-all type of player who makes huge contributions for Banks all over the floor, from huge defensive stops to tough rebounds to perfectly-timed buckets. She is often one of the leading scorers for her team, as she was in their first-round game against Cascade Christian with 8 big points. With her experience and leadership, Janecek is exactly the kind of X-factor that could push the Braves to another deep run.
Written about a few times already this season, Schimel continues to deliver jaw-dropping performances that can’t be ignored. One of the all-around best talents in the state, regardless of classification, the 5’10 star can play any position on the floor for the Cardinals, and is a heavy favorite for state player of the year come season’s end. Coming off an incredible 45-point game against Burns in the opening round of the tournament, Schimel left no doubt that she will be one of the players to watch next weekend as she hopes to lead her team, last year’s runners-up, to a championship.
Highlights
Kesley Stepleton
Kesley Stepleton
In another impressive first-round game, Kesley Stepleton showed why she and the Vikings will be no easy opponent in Coos Bay. The sophomore forward has been impressive all season-long, putting up double-doubles left and right. She is one of the top rebounders for her team. And her high-level play appears to be peaking at the right time, as she put up an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double in the final league game against Nyssa to go along with 4 steals and 2 assists, and she followed that up by scoring 19 in their win over Sisters in the opening round of the tournament.
And last but most definitely not least, Addyson Clark Addyson Clark 6’0″ | PF Sutherlin | 2025 State OR is another player I have written about a few times already, but as one of the best forwards in the state, there is lots to be said about her game. Standing at 6’0 tall, Clark is a force around the rim, both offensively and on the glass at both ends. Clark, however, also has the ability to stretch the floor and make shots from the outside, making her an incredibly difficult matchup for any opposing team. In mid-January, Clark was averaging 17 points, 8 boards, 4 blocks, 3 assists, and 3 steals per game while shooting 40% from 3-point territory. Her prowess was on full display in the opening-round game against Valley Catholic in which she scored 26 points from all over the court. She will be one of the top players on display in Coos Bay next weekend.
