Continue ReadingJunior Matea Vernon Matea Vernon 5’6″ | SG Forest Grove | 2025 State OR has been a consistent force for the Vikings all season. The shooting guard is a high-energy player who can completely change the pace of a game, and is constantly doing all of the little things for her team. She is lightning quick to the rim or can also knock it down from outside. Some recent conference games include 11 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal against Glencoe; and 8 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals, and 8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals in the two games against Century. She and the Vikings need a big final week of league play as it wraps up.
Only a freshman, Maritrano has been getting better and better all season long, helping lead the Titans to a Central Valley Conference championship. At 5’8, she plays bigger than she is, and she is one of the top scorers for her team with her excellent finishing ability around the rim. She is constantly running the floor and pushing the pace. In two of the most recent games, Maritrano went for 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal against South Salem; and 15 points, 2 assists, and 4 steals at North Salem. The future is very bright for this young star.
Highlights
Addison White
Addison White
Another blossoming, young player, Addison White is asserting herself as a power forward to keep an eye on in the future. The 6’1 sophomore has become a consistent scoring weapon for the Skyhawks while showing flashes of brilliance on the defensive end with steals and blocked shots. Three recent Metro League performances include 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist at Aloha; 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks against Westview; and 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist against Mountainside. Playing on the #9-ranked team in the state, White will be a name to know heading into the postseason.
McManus has been one of the key players on McMinnville’s path to a 20-3 record, a Pacific Conference title, and #3 in the state. The 5’5 shooting guard is one of the best shooters that I have watched this season, and plays with a relentless motor on the defensive end, giving her opponents constant trouble. Her leadership on the floor for the Grizzlies is obvious. She had a very productive 9-point, 5-assist, and 2-steal game against Century, and she knocked down a whopping five 3-pointers to finish with 17 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 2 steals in the recent game at Liberty. McManus and the Grizzlies are in the hunt for state championship in the coming weeks.
Sophie Maxwell
Sophie Maxwell
A key member of the talented, young West Linn team that has been making waves this season, Sophie Maxwell has had an impressive sophomore season and she has a very bright future ahead of her. As a long 5’9 wing, Maxwell is a natural at running the floor and beating everyone down it, resulting in layups for her team. She is also a crafty defender with a knack for getting her hand on the ball. In league play, she had 8 points, 5 boards, and 2 steals against St. Mary’s; 3 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and a block against Tigard; and 12 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal versus Lakeridge. She may be one of the up-and-coming shooting forwards to know.
