As we move towards the postseason, I wanted to highlight some players who are X factors for teams with aspirations of winning their regions and advancing to Rupp Arena next month.
Only an 8th grader, South Laurel’s run in the postseason will depend on the youngest roster in the region. Skeeter is a versatile scorer who can make threes or score around the bucket but she could make the biggest difference on the glass. For South Laurel to make a Cinderella run, Mabe will need to be a prolific rebounder in addition to playing solid post defense against bigger opponents.
Owsley County would be a heavy favorite to win the 14th if there were betting allowed on high school tournaments. In order to get out of the 14th and make a run at Rupp, freshman Macey Brown Macey Brown 5’11” | C Owsley County | 2027 State KY is going to need to provide a quality interior option on offense. She’s averaging 13 points and 11 rebounds per game this season but Brown is going to be tested against the best of the best the rest of the season.
Kristen has been a regular attendee at our PGH events over her career and she could make the difference in Pikeville’s state title chances with her high level three point shooting. White is a 40% three point shooter and shoots 47% overall for her Senior season. While Trinity Rowe Trinity Rowe 5’7″ | PG Pikeville | 2024 State KY grabs a lot of headlines, Kristen is a dependable scoring option that can make a living off open looks from Trinity’s drive and kicks.
Highlights
The older Gulley on the Ashland roster, Jaidyn can make a difference for the Kittens by providing an inside force. Gulley is the leading rebounder for Ashland but she can also score the ball when opportunities present themselves. Russell beat Ashland in their last encounter and for them to reverse that result, Jaidyn will likely need to improve on her 7 point performance from last time.
