I caught a couple of close games that fell into my #downtothewire category, tried to catch a couple of more but NFHS was having technical difficulties yet here are the Standouts, I have something else coming for the New Faces from Round 3
Carrasco has always been a player that could perform under pressure. She showed me how poised she was in crunch time in the 6th grade I believe so seeing her put together a flurry of baskets multiple ways to give her squad some breathing room late in the game had me smiling. She came away with a steal, had a good defensive stop yet her pull-up jumper as well as knocking a free throw down was exciting yet she also helped seal it by scoring off the dribble
Williams also performed well down the stretch and her two free throws helped spread icing on the cake but watching her slice by defenders to score off the dribble was nice but what was even nicer was her following her shot from outside, rebound and score under the basket, yeah I love the simple things I rarely see anymore. She did a good job rebounding on both ends, her defense was solid and she played the passing lane a few times

Campos handled the ball under pressure each time I did my wraparound coverage yet her wraparound passes were nice as she saw the floor well. She scored off the dribble, created her shot from outside while being defended but she also did a good job on the defensive end, this includes playing the passing lane. I giggled as she showed a good understanding of positioning which enabled her to not only rebound but score over taller players
Cooks is a gamer and already understands how to put her team on her back when needed yet she also understands that the game starts at the 1 and observing her find the right player to get the ball to at the right time and her decision making stood out at the Houston Christian camp. With so many platforms out there and teams playing all over the place, I don’t get to see everyone but I have seen enough of her to know she’s a Top 100 player, not just because of her “no look” passes in traffic or her crossover going full speed, it’s because of many other things like her scoring off the dribble as well as from outside

Lecompte is a long and athletic guard that usually plays the 3/4 positions yet because of her athleticism, she gets the job done. She elevates to rebound, can handle the ball in the open court afterward and watching her go coast to coast and finish was nice but so was her “and 1” to start the 4th quarter which helped change the momentum of the game. She plays the passing lane, defends in the paint as well as on the ball plus her first step enables her to get to the basket and finish after contact
