Well, my vertical isn’t what it used to be, yet I still find ways to score, and with two talented teams from Louisiana traveling for the event, I was pleased with what’s on the other side of the state line
Nahla Melbert– showed the pull-up jumper to go along with scoring off the dribble while attacking the basket with either hand. I also liked her court vision, as well as after being scratched in the eye on opening day, I thought she was done yet in the blink of an eye, no pun intended, she came back applying heat on the defensive end as well as playing the passing lane
Jordan Lavinge– is an athletic guard who already understands how to use her athleticism on both ends. She goes hard, yet stays under control, and watching her attack the basket powerfully to score was nice, yet her on-the-ball pressure, baseline to baseline, was just as good, and so is her upside
Darielle Freeman– also has some upside and it’s scary because she went coast to coast several times to score yet her body control, including after contact is a big plus at this stage of her career. She also applied serious “on the ball ” pressure and showed good court vision
Sadie Soileau– is heady, and did a good job handling the ball under pressure but also saw the floor while being defended. She also used a deceptive first step in the set to get to the rim and score but her dishing off the dribble was also nice
Kadence Fontenot– grabbed my attention immediately with her energy yet after finding out she was 10 years old, all I could do was smile. She’s heady and comprehends the simple things which will be huge as her career continues and watching her do things instinctively will have her in the mix. Speaking of the mix, she did a good job on the offensive end showing she could score off the dribble as well as drop it from outside, 3 ball included plus she saw the floor
