Continue ReadingThis is an important time of year for prospects to breakout. The playoffs offer different opportunities than the regular season. Some players are better breakout candidates than others. To breakout there has to be major room for growth in the rankings. In other words, this article isn’t centered around the elite prospects for each class. Rather, this is about who can see their ranking increase greatly with a strong second half of the playoffs.
Lauren Ortwerth Lauren Ortwerth 5'11" | PF Cor Jesu | 2026 State MO (Cor Jesu)
Ortwerth is primed with a big opportunity if she’s able to perform well over the next game or handful of games. She’s a sophomore leading one of the best teams in Class 6. This is impressive in itself but what’s even more impressive is her double-double average so far this season. She’s a great rebounder and has the frame needed to raise her stock further. A hardworking forward. She’s set to play Marquette tonight.
Josie Salazar Josie Salazar 5'6" | PG Kickapoo | 2026 State MO (Kickapoo)
The 5’7 PG is highly regarded in this class. Being a floor general and leader this early in your career is usually a great sign. Should she lead her team to Mizzou Arena, that would bode well for her stock as a prospect. PGs are often measured by their ability to control the game and lead their team to wins. That’s exactly what she’s doing as of late. She has been making big shots and scoring the ball at a high level.
Malia Chievous (Rock Bridge)
Chievous is a glue player for this team and has seen her role increase as of late due to injury. She’s a player who can step in, fill a role, and keep this team performing at a high level. The junior is always a staple of their success but it’s even more pronounced now. She’s a potential stockriser because of the increased opportunity to make shots, get tons of minutes, and showcase her full range of abilities. Rock Bridge plays Staley tonight.
Peyton Ward Peyton Ward 6'2" | SF Marshfield | 2027 State MO (Marshfield)
There are many great freshmen still playing, but few have the role that Ward does. She plays a lot of minutes and gives this team added size, skill, and defensive ability as she can cover up shots. One of the best long-term potential prospects in the 2027 class. It’s uncommon to see girls who play like she does at 6’2 and this age. Going to state would be a huge platform for her to display why she’s going to be a name to know for many years.
Ali Daniels Ali Daniels 5'7" | PG Owensville | 2025 State MO (Owensville)
Daniels is one of the best guards remaining in this Class 4 field. She played well when it mattered in the district championship. Tonight, she’s going to need to do the same vs. a tough Aurora squad. Daniels can fill it up quickly. A dynamite player with the ball who can get downhill and plays in attack mode at all times. She’s an exciting player that currently sits at 29th in the 2025 rankings.
