Morgan Smith was one of my favorite defenders to watch in person this year. She was constantly causing problems on that end of the court picking the pocket of her opponents or jumping the passing lanes because she anticipated what they were going to do. She knew how to take these turnovers and score on the other end using her speed to push the ball up the court, and she doesn’t back down from a battle in the paint for rebounds.
Jada Richardson uses her length and footwork on both ends of the court. She will certainly make an opponent constantly work for position on the block as she continues to move around to block the entry pass. On offense, she sprints up the court being ready to go to work on fast breaks. Her height and positioning will bring down boards on both ends, too.
Ashley Browne is an excellent ball handler who knows how to read the floor well. She is constantly moving even without the ball making the nice cuts whether she is getting the backdoor cut or coming into the paint to show off her jump shots. She brings the IQ to defense knowing how to move her opponents to where she wants them to go to inhibit them from scoring.
Rosalie Cok is another one that makes sure her IQ is apparent on the court. She has a nice shot from around the arc, and she knows how to move to shift the defense. Her leadership was apparent with how she directed her teammates where to go to make a play, and she was certain to get them some nice passes to score on their own.
Mariyah Massey is a crafty point guard for Seventy-First controlling the tempo of the game with how she brings the ball up the court. She knows how to move to get her teammates involved making the sharp passes to them underneath the basket or up the court to increase the tempo. She is quick with her pull up jumper being able to stop on a dime losing he defenders, and she doesn’t back down from battling through contact to get her points.
