This event is our only Spring AAU event held in Iowa for the 2024 AAU season and I’m very excited to be providing evaluations/coverage. In this article I highlight five prospects I am excited to see over the next few days while doing my thing. Each player is someone that has impressed in the past and so I can’t wait to see what they bring to the table over these next three days.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
When I first had the chance to see Betsy Gillette Betsy Gillette 5’8″ | SG Hayfield | 2026 State MN compete last season, I was blown away. I don’t remember what Air Minnesota team she was on specifically but she stood out to me right away because of her mixture of size and ability on the floor. She seemed to always make the right play and she is somewhat crafty in everything she does. Like I said, she has solid size for her position, she is quick off the dribble, and she makes great choices in tight situations. As long as she comes locked in this weekend, I’m expecting more of the same. Which says a lot because she is playing with an impressive 2025 Air Minnesota Jech team this year, that has several impressive play-makers. If they give it their best effort, they are going to have a great weekend as a whole.
Jamyla Gilmore Jamyla Gilmore 6’2″ | PF Bellevue East | 2025 State NE is a prospect that is going to be in the debate for one of the tallest athletes at this event and I can’t wait to see what she can put together. Gilmore comes to us out of Nebraska and she is coming off of a successful high school campaign in general. She stands right around 6’2 and she is agile in all of her movements. She gets down the floor with good speed and she makes the most of her opportunities at the rim from what I’ve seen. Another thing that she does well is that she does her work early. Meaning that she rim-runs down the floor at good speed, usually beating her opponent to their spot, on either side of the floor. If she can keep this up over the next few days, she is going to get a whole lot of buckets and stops. That’s for sure.
Brylee Nelsen Brylee Nelsen 5’9″ | SF Millard North | 2025 State NE is someone that we have seen on the high school floor at Millard North this past few years and she has a solid play-style at the Shooting Guard position. Nelsen is a multi-sport athlete, that has great movement from side-to-side, while being a constant scoring threat with the basketball in her hands. This past season on the Varsity floor, she saw the court in moderation but now it’s her time to shine. This weekend she will be competing with her Omaha Supreme 2025 team and I’m excited to watch her live again. If she stays confident in her own ability and trusts in her work, I know she will show out. It’s just a matter of doing it now!
Highlights
Team Factory 2025 has a SQUAD. That’s all I need to say about that. To stand out in any way is impressive as they have several pieces who could turn out to be productive basketball players at the collegiate level one day. A prospect from this group, that I’m interested in seeing first hand is Mya Weber Mya Weber 6’0″ | SF Bellevue East | 2025 State NE . Weber is a prospect that comes in at 6’0 and she has that mixture of size, skill, and knowledge of situational basketball that all coaches love to see at this point. This group is going to be a TOUGH out. They run great offense and they play aggressive on defense. If Weber can do her thing and control the middle of the lane, while also spreading the floor at times, they will be very hard to stop throughout the duration of a entire contest. They never seem to lighten up their pressure and that speaks to how well they play as a group.
I have not had the opportunity to see Allie Zittel Allie Zittel 5’6″ | CG Luther – Onalaska, WI | 2025 State MN compete this past year but from everything I am hearing, this is someone that everyone should know moving into the weekend. Zittel seems to be known for her elite shooting ability. She is listed as a Combo Guard, meaning that she can also handle the ball and move around the perimeter whenever it is needed but if they could keep her at the 2/3 spot, I’m sure they will. Zittel has confidence in her own ability and she should. She displays that every time she takes the floor and that is refreshing to see to be honest. Now a days there are too many prospects that seem shy or not willing to be themselves out there and that’s not right. The best players trust in their work and know what they bring to the floor. I think that Zittel embodies that and I can’t wait to see it firsthand over these next few days.
