Sunday, my eyes were primarily on the 17U division, and here are the Top Performers from Sunday, I’ll drop another TOP PERFORMERS as well
Effit is “long and athletic” which is always a PLUS because that is the BASE. Watching her go AFTA everything off the rim immediately grabbed my attention yet her timing and going after the ball in the air to block shots helped keep it. She did a good job of scoring and defending inside the paint, she also did something I don’t see as much as I should and that was “follows her shot” so let me drop #THROWBACK like she did shots
Solomon continues to elevate her game and show she can do more than just drop the 3 ball. She’s creating her shot better under pressure to show the midrange as well as attack off the dribble, she’s also seeing the floor better in the set as well as in transition. Her on the ball defense was good and so is her upside
Lara was good on Saturday and REALLY good on Sunday as she was one of those “never takes a play off” players who just brought it hard on both ends. She created her shot under pressure and dropped the jumper with a hand in her face yet her aggressiveness off the dribble to score after contact was nice. She did a good job defensively and also played the passing lane
Mackenzie King
Mackenzie King
King brought a lot of offense with her and showed she could score on a variety of ways like the “stop and pop” in transition yet her jumper in the set was also nice because she drained while being defended. She used her athleticism on both ends, to either attack the rim and score or apply “on the ball” pressure both in the set as well as baseline to baseline
Vation was another “long and athletic” player that showed several intangibles, yeah that ties into the base and her rebounding strongly on both ends was nice, she even handled the ball afterward. She also scored off the dribble, her finishes after contact looed easy because of her college ready frame yet her interior defense was nice, so was her stepping outside of it to guard her man
Highlights
Smith crossed the state line from Oklahoma and not only is Oklahoma OK, so is Whitney. Well, she’s actually “more than okay” yet one my first stories about her almost 5 years ago spoke volumes . She scored off the dribble, show the mid to long-range as well as solid court vision both in the set as well as in transition plus she played solid defense, even played the passing lane
