This past weekend marked the second “live” period of the Spring for women’s basketball prospects, as teams traveled all across the country to be evaluated by college coaches of all levels. I spent my weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, at The Classic, an annual event put on by Ohio Basketball. I will have a few follow-up articles, with this one focusing on seven forwards who like to operate in the mid-post. With 41 courts and roughly 500 teams at the event, I wasn’t able to see everyone or everyone’s entire slate of games, but I tried to see teams I was less familiar with, though there was some overlap.
.
Sophie has put together a nice Spring thus far, and she has picked up quite a bit of small college attention because of it. She is a nice athlete and stands out at times because of her ability to run the floor, chase down rebounds, and attack the basket off the bounce. She is also strong enough to battle inside at times, but she’s also skilled around the perimeter and can handle it/shoot it as a wing.
Highlights
I first saw Ella last year and was impressed with the combination of her motor and her athleticism. She is a very active, bouncy kid, and she has a lot of length. She is always around the basketball, she is a nice pursuing rebounder, and she can score it consistently at the basket and in the mid-post. She has begun stretching her game to the perimeter and is starting to knock down the 3-pointer, plus she’s a versatile defender.
Morgan is a strong and athletic forward who has some explosiveness in her. She is willing to be physical and battle inside of 10-feet, but she is also a skilled mid-post shooter/scorer who can consistently knock down an open 15-footer or drive it to the rim and finish through contact. If she can play with urgency more often, I think she has a chance to be a really nice double-double machine at the collegiate level.
Emma is another forward who fits this profile well, but she is likely flying a little more under the radar than most of the other girls in this article. She was originally a Greenfield-Central kid, but she transferred to Morristown this season, and she instantly made an impact. She is another really nice athlete who plays with a motor, and she is very good in the mid-post. She is also starting to establish more of a perimeter game.
Highlights
Alyson is one of the most productive players on this list. She is a force inside, she battles for position around the block, and she can score it at the basket. But she has also shown nice skill in the mid-post, and she is comfortable around the perimeter. She is a balanced and strong athlete, she plays with a nice motor, and she will make a lot of the hustle plays to help her team(s) win. She has drawn a great deal of small college interest.
Addison is an intangibles prospect who does a lot of the little things that help her teams win. She has a great motor, she’s a tough-nosed kid, and she will battle on the boards while defending multiple positions. She has a balanced skillset, but she is on a talented and deep team at Hamilton Southeastern, so she doesn’t post astronomical numbers. I think Addison is a prospect the elite small colleges will really enjoy recruiting.

Riley has been impressive this Spring, especially over the past couple of tournaments. She is an athletic, strong, and long prospect who runs the floor well and has some bounce in her step. She is great in the mid-post, can attack or shoot it from there, but she also has a nice little turn-around game. Defensively, she is probably still best on forwards, but she does a really nice job defending ball screens out on the floor.
