I spent my weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, at The Classic, an annual event put on by Ohio Basketball. I will have a few follow-up articles, with this one focusing on seven post players I saw who I felt needed mentioned. With 41 courts and roughly 500 teams at the event, I wasn’t able to see everyone or everyone’s entire slate of games, but I tried to see teams I was less familiar with, though there was some overlap.

Shelby has been a regular in the Lanesville rotation for a couple of years, but it was in the Class 1A State Finals when she put herself on the map, coming off the bench to score 20 points, pull down 7 rebounds, and block a pair of shots in the absence of a fallen teammate. This Spring, she has been solid, using her strong frame to establish position inside, and using her skill to score it around the block and in the mid-post. She should have a great deal of small college interest coming.
Highlights
Sam is a long, wiry, and fairly fluid frontline prospect. She has some bounce in her step as well, and despite still needing some strength, she attempts to play physical inside, but she also possesses skill away from the basket. Even when she was younger, her face-up jumper stood out. Now being able to play inside or out offensively, plus her shot-blocking presence defensively, she has several recruitable tools.

This was actually my first viewing of Samone, and she has already drawn some small college interest/offers this Spring. She has broad shoulders and a strong frame, she’s willing to be physical in and around the block, and she gets out and runs hard in transition. As she continues to gain experience and improve her all-around skillset, look for her to continue adding to her college interest.

Lyllee is an intriguing post prospect who still hasn’t come close to reaching her ceiling. I think she’s a small college’s ideal post prospect, because she should only continue to gain strength and develop her skillset as she progresses in her college career. She has great length, a wiry-strong frame, and she plays with a nice motor. She has soft hands and can finish around the basket, plus she will alter her share of shots.

In the right system, Mylie could be an ideal post prospect. Even though she is a broad-shouldered, strong, powerful front-liner, she is likely not going to be a full-time back-to-the-basket post player. She uses her size well to set ball screens, she can roll, but she can also pop and knock down the occasional 3-pointer, really stretching out defenses. Look for her to potentially fill a face-up ‘5’ role somewhere.

This weekend was also my first time seeing Raven, and she certainly has a lot of intriguing qualities. First, she has nice height, enough strength at her age, and tremendous length. She is fairly fluid, likely still growing, so she could/should be more explosive by her Senior year. She plays with a nice motor, some bounce, and she is a solid defender/rebounder. As the offense comes, she could become a problem.

Floyd Central seems to have stumbled into a nice string of sizeable posts this decade, and Riley is a youngster who could really develop into a quality college prospect. She has a solid to strong frame already, really nice length, and she works hard. I see her as a kid who will develop more strength and explosiveness as she ages, but she already has a solid skillset that will continue to improve with repetition.
