Akiem’s Long Island 2025 Players to Watch (Part 6)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It has been several months since the 2023-24 season concluded with state champions returning to their respective hometowns with the best hardware a New York high school athlete can claim.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It will not be long before it all begins again.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Over the last several days, Prep Girls Hoops New York has turned its attention to Long Island to spotlight a number of the talented seniors that occupy Suffolk and Nassau Counties. In addition to the career she has built as a Firebird, she has also done the same with Team Lightning during the AAU months of spring and summer. Merkle also had a stint where she played with Nassau Pride. Even if she is not in the game, she is actively giving a lift to the five that are on the floor by cheering from the bench and offering words of encouragement. Toner will be heading to Lafayette to be part of its lacrosse team. Toner has no problems drawing contact and getting to the free throw line. A highlight of Toner's basketball playing days occurred in the latter part of the 2022-23 season – when she was true on nine of her 10 attempts from the charity stripe in a 56-48 win over Our Lady of Mercy. That earned St. Anthony's a berth in that year's Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) 2A final. She stands in at 5-foot-5 and can play either of the guard positions in the backcourt. Boyle has also stood out in the lacrosse realm as well. Two seasons ago, the Monarchs defeated Archbishop Molloy to claim the CHSAA 1A girls championship and Boyle tallied seven goals plus an assist. After this year, the basketball realm will miss her hoops heroics as she intends to put her full focus on volleyball as a collegiate athlete at Iona. Rohan's Stony Brook team had a successful season in 2023-24 and the scoring and rebounding capabilities of Rohan were central to the Bears finding themselves in the win column with regularity. Prior to arriving on the scene at Stony Brook, Rohan wore the red and gold of Sachem East. Rohan tallied 24 points and hauled in 16 rebounds in a 57-39 win over Portledge to claim the Private Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) championship.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
