Briarcrest Lady Saints: 2024-25 Season Preview and Key Players

The Briarcrest Lady Saints are ready to take a bite out of their competition. These girls have a nice system where they display a solid inside and out game. This team uses their speed to create turnovers, leading to transition buckets heading the other way. Sparked by sensational guard play, these young ladies speed up the competition, baiting the opponents to play their tempo. This is a heady ball club that can fill it up in more ways than one.   Led by coach Lee Smith, the Lady Saints have had an impressive run over the past couple of years. Last year the girls were 18-12 overall and 5-2 in the district, losing in the Elite 8 in a close battle with CPA. The year before that, they reached the final 4, losing to Ensworth. This squad has the pedigree to go the distance. This club is fundamentally sound, knows when and where to pick their spots to exploit, and are disciplined in their system. Even though they graduated some top notch seniors, this team is definitely coming back this season hungrier than ever.   The Lady Saints will look to finish as one of the top teams in their region. With a favorable schedule, these girls will come out the gates quickly, before matching up with divisional foes. Last season, they had a tough non conference schedule and dropped two games in the district to Hutchison. However, this season, look for them to be ready to knock off some of their non-conference teams and be neck and neck with Lady Sting. This will be an exciting year for the Lady Saints.    Here are some key contributors who will be suiting up for the green and gold.      The University of Cincinnati commit will be looking to come into the season with something to prove. This young lady possesses quick handles that enable her to get down hill. She plays off two feet.She is an aggressive attacker that attracts the defense and will either finish at the rim or kick it to an open teammate. Has a nice mid-range game in her bag. On defense, she is a hustler, getting steals and loose balls. Solid ball player who will look to rebound and pick up where she left off from last season.     Speedy PG who is a downhill threat. She runs the offense efficiently. A heady floor general who can set her teammates up for success. I love her footwork. She has fast twitch hips that enables her to turn her opponent on the defensive end, picking them up full court. She has the heart of a lion, someone who prides themselves in getting the job done. She's nice on the offensive end, but the defensive side of the ball is where she makes her money. Look for her to be a nuisance on that side of the ball. Solid kid who has a bright future.     Big post player who is physical on the interior. Can be used in the screen game, setting solid picks which enable her teammate to get open or she can finish at the rim. Possesses soft hands, nice footwork, and displays nice back to the basket moves and counter moves. Knocks down shots from the elbows and short corners at a high clip. She's big on the boards and shuts down the painted area. Solid prospect who will have a breakout year this upcoming season.     Look for her to step up and come out the gates right away. She can play both inside and out, knock down shots from multiple spots, and contribute on the boards. She is a heady ball player who does the little things right. She will be looked upon to play a solid role and will benefit from the drivers who kick it out to her. She's a tough kid who can and will hold her own. Look for her to have a breakout season and help be a part of this Lady Saints attack.
