CPA Lady Lions: A Force to Be Reckoned With This Season

The Christ Presbyterian Academy Lady Lions are ready to roar this upcoming season.This skilled bunch of young ladies are ready to unleash their balanced attacks on both non conference and divisional foes. Over the past couple of years, if you have followed this program closely, they've gotten better and better. Making the jump from the DII-A to DII-AA, this club has become a staple, a force to be reckoned with. Each year, this program brings something to the table. Last year, they were 14-11 overall, going 5-4 in the district. The year before that, they went 15-10 overall, going 4-6 in the district. Don't let those numbers fool you because this team thrives in the postseason setting.   Coached by Becky Legate, this team really truly takes on her identity. A hard nose team that is disciplined and goes hard each and every possession. They are smart tacticians that know how to execute. This team has grown together over the years and collectively they are hard to deal with. This year they have the depth and leadership to put together an impressive run. They will definitely be one of the top 4 teams in their districts. Depending on their draw, they could have a favorable matchup coming out of the region. Some of these girls have had the taste of playing postseason ball in Cookeville. Look for them to set their sights high on new goals. Just like a lion, look for them to pounce on their prey to reach the mountain top!   Here are some key student athletes for the CPA Lady Lions.    Dynamic guard that can play inside and out. She is a mismatch for opponents as she can do work on the inside or pose a threat on the perimeter. She has handles, knows how to be physical and use her body, and can knock it down from multiple levels on the floor. Contributes also by getting steals, rebounds, and timely assists. Solid kid who is an absolute dawg when it comes to the game of basketball.     Speed demon who creates havoc the full length of the floor. Offensively, she is a driver who can get high % shots. She's an effective floor general who can efficiently run any offense. Smart ballplayer who always finds the hot hand. Defensively, she creates turnovers. She's going to pick you up full court and bait you to either turn you over or slow you down. This kid gets steals and deflections by the bunches. Solid kid who is a gamer.     Dual sport athlete who can be a menace in the paint. She owns it and thrives on both ends of the floor. Has a nice arsenal of back to the basket moves she uses on the offensive end. She anticipates well, jumping to gain rebounds and putting it back through contact. Defensively she is solid. Grabbing boards and blocking shots, closing down the interior. She thrives on the volleyball court, but she too does damage on the hardwood floor as well. Solid kid who has an upwards trajectory.     Shooter. Pure and simple. It's in her DNA and she will let it fly from anywhere on the floor. This kid exudes confidence and she plays the game hard, leaving it all out on the floor. Contributing on both ends of the floor, Julia always seems to be in the right spot at the right time. Look for her to have a solid year and play a key role in the Lady Lions attack.     Stretch forward that can knock down shots on the perimeter or pound it down low. She can play with her back to the basket or face up to attack. Solid ball handler and is poised under pressure, she always seems to know where the open teammate is and throws a dot for them to shoot off her pass. I love her ability to block shots and rebound. Her size poses problems for opponents. This will be a coming out year for her. Look for Jane to put up solid numbers across the board.     Size matters and this kid imposes that threat. Transfering into the program, Jayda brings size, tenacity, and talent into the fold. Offensively, she moves well for a big. Can be used in the screen game or unleash havoc on the low blocks and mid range sections. She is a beast on the boards and really attacks the glass with authority. Defensively, she is a defensive juggernaut. Making it hard for teams to operate down low. A heck of a prospect that is going to be a force for the Lady Lions.
