PGHNJ's Expo saw sixty girls representing the Classes of 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 come together under one roof in Wayne, NJ to compete in 3×3 and 5×5 events on Saturday. From future D1 prospects, to D2, D3 and even NAIA and JUCO level prospects, this event had a little bit of everything! The competition and atmosphere was incredible! Here is what I saw from Team 2:

[player_tooltip player_id='976667' first='Talia' last='LeBorgne'] | #389

With an undeniable hustle, Talia seemed to be everywhere all at once! She tried to do a little bit of everything to help her team notch wins, from scoring, to rebounding, to just flat-out making smart plays. She maintained high energy throughout the course of the day and was almost like the nucleus of Team 2. When she was on the floor, her team looked more fluid and more cohesive.

[player_tooltip player_id='914269' first='Carmela' last='Arana'] | #392

Carmela was one of the best players PERIOD. She outplayed girls grades above her and really lit it up from just about everywhere, but especially from 3-point land. She was zippy in transition and pushed the pace to drop buckets at the rim. Not only was she a star on offense, her defense was also very solid, forcing turnovers and igniting fast breaks. A lot of her steals came under the basket; a total disruptor!

[player_tooltip player_id='677601' first='Lola' last='McGonigle'] | #817

Lola was the MVP of 3x3 today with impressive scoring and play-making. In one game, she accounted for almost all of her team's points! When it came to 5x5, she showed flashes of brilliance from 3, as expected, and displayed a strong mid-range game. She's known as a knockdown 3-point shooter, but watching her light it up from the mid-range today and work the defense with her dribble really impressed me. A legitimate multi-level scorer! In a game vs Team 6, she was just about automatic shooting it from 15-feet!

[player_tooltip player_id='816416' first='Emily' last='Mattson'] | #826

Emily came in ready to work, which was evident by her confident shot selection early on! She willed her way to the basket and found the angle on tough drives. From distance, she buried straight-away 3's even with the defender's hand pressed squarely in her face! I loved how she was patient moving the ball around and setting up for her shot; never once did I see her take a rushed or poor shot.

[player_tooltip player_id='958492' first='Nyeema' last='Torres'] | #834

Tough as nails! One of the strongest guards in the gym, Nyeema was not intimidated by a single opponent! She put her head down and went to work, both in 3x3 and 5x5 play. She was both the disher of dimes and the recipient of quite a few, including some rocket passes by teammate [player_tooltip player_id='677601' first='Lola' last='McGonigle']. I was extremely impressed with her toughness and never-back-down attitude! Some of the toughest, most headstrong drives I saw came from Nyeema!

[player_tooltip player_id='862769' first='Emily' last='Swierk'] | #647

Watching Emily compete, you'd never know she's working her way back from an Achilles injury! She was an efficient 3-level scoring threat today!! Steady ball-handling allowed her to create smooth 15-18 foot jumpers and patience around the arc saw her bury 3's off the catch. Her dribble penetration paid dividends once she got to the basket, finding the angle and tallying points for her team.

[player_tooltip player_id='1048683' first='Alicia' last='Boscarino'] | #856

Her strengths lie in her mid-range game and it was evident today time and time again! She drained more than a few 18 footers and showed consistency in her shot selection. She didn't break under pressure and found ways to work around the defense and get herself open for a shot.

[player_tooltip player_id='1048723' first='Noemi' last='Simon'] | #918

Extremely strong rebounding presence! Her assertiveness on the glass helped her team with second chance scoring opportunities and earned her multiple trips to the charity stripe. Not only did she display physical strength in the low post, her mental strength was impressive as well in the fact that she knew she'd be hacked and played physical down low, but it didn't soften her! She battled through contact and matched the opponents' physicality, if not overpowered them altogether!
