Class 4A preview: 10 players to watch this winter
In this article:
The clock is ticking towards the beginning of the 2024-25 girls high school basketball season. Minnesota teams began practice on Monday. They'll be playing games by Thursday with the Breakdown Tip Off Classic beginning the campaign with a bang on Saturday, Nov. 23. With more than 400 schools competing in four classes, it's impossible to do team previews or conference overviews, although some intrepid observers try year after year. After a while, they all kind of sound the same. We'll take a different approach and do what we do best: Look at the prospects you'll want to see when the games begin for real. We start today with 10 players to watch this winter in Class 4A.

–The 5'11 combo guard from Maple Grove made her college choice official this week when she signed her National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend Michigan State University of the Big 10. It's a great choice for the #1-ranked prospect in the Class of 2025, leading candidate for Miss Basketball, and all-around stud.

– Nobody had a bigger stock-rising summer than the 6'1 guard from East Ridge. Vienna has been picking up high-major offers from coast to coast thanks to an elite shooting stroke and so much more. Now ranked #4 among Minnesota juniors, Vienna is ready to take the high school game by storm this season.

– Only a sophomore, Amisha is a varsity veteran from Rosemount who can do it all. She just might be the best shooter in the state. but her versatility is now well-established. Ranked #3 in the Class of 2027, the 5'11 guard is a high-major recruit with truly elite potential. Is this the year the Irish make a deep run?

STMA | 2025

MN
– We remember way back when the 5'11 forward made her debut for St. Michael-Albertville in middle school. She was as green as grass with the potential of an entire forest. Over time we've watched with interest as the 7th-ranked senior blossomed before our eyes and committed to South Dakota State. She's a force for STMA.

Wayzata | 2025
State
MN
– The 5'8 combo guard already scored a state championship this year when Wayzata reigned supreme in soccer. She hopes the Trojans can do the same in basketball, an ongoing quest that seems to be getting more realistic. Ranked #9 in the class, Hawkinson is a bulldog! Next year she'll be a Bison at North Dakota State.

St. Michael-Albertville | 2026
State
MN
– The uber-lengthy guard/wing from St. Micheal-Albertville has been a star in the making seemingly forever. Last season was Cail's breakout year as the 6'2 prospect, rated #3 in the Class of 2026, blossomed. This year she just might to soar to the stratosphere which is exactly with the Knights need from a player with sky-high potential.
Alivia Bell

Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2027
State
MN
– The 5'7 point guard transferred over the summer from Winona to Hopkins where the stakes are higher, the opponents are tougher and expectations are bigger than she's experienced before. We think the top 10 sophomore is up to the task. Bell is a highly skilled floor general who can run the show and that's exactly what Hopkins needs.
Sahara Wilson

Lakeville North | 2028
State
MN
– Giant post players are hard to find but Lakeville North has found a good one in the #3 freshman in Minnesota. Standing 6'3 with a big frame, Wilson has the dimensions to dominate. Combined with guard-like skills, Sahara offers a unique combination of assets that will make her a force sooner rather than later.
NEXT BIG THING

Minnetonka | 2028

MN
– When it comes to top-end potential, no 9th grader in Class 4A has more of it than the 6'1 wing/guard/forward with the eye-popping athleticism. After collecting a couple of Class 2A state championships at Providence Academy, Ari has moved over to Minnetonka where she can prove herself against the best of the biggest.
