Scarabs Set for Growth in Tough League This Season

New season. Renewed energy. The St. Cecilia Academy Scarabs come into the year with a different mindset. Since taking over last year, Coach Tony Thompson has been preaching togetherness, doing things with maximum effort, and being efficient. When building a program, it takes time. You take your lumps along the way, but you gain valuable experience in doing so as well. Last year, the Scarabs finished last in the district, posting a 4-17 record overall. Even though this club plays in a tough league, there has to be an adjustment period to get acclimated to things. Consider that period happening right now!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This summer, the ladies from SCA went about their business and put in some work. These young ladies did extra training outside of team ball as well as play club basketball with some pretty decent programs. The prior season left a bad taste in their mouths. This year, it's all about growth. One milestone at a time. Little by little. Look for them to grow from last year and reach team goals that have been set.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As I mentioned earlier, the league they play in is tough. I expect this ball club to reach certain benchmarks they've set amongst themselves. With some success, they hope to change their fortunes and keep building towards the future. Like all good things, it takes time. Has nice back to the basket moves, can finish over either shoulder. She uses her size to create space and muscle through defenders on the way to the basket. On the defensive end, she is big time on the boards. She has a knack of being in the right spot at the right time to secure an opportunity. She pretty much can get a double double on a nightly basis. Has a nice face up game. Finishes well around the mid-range and low block areas. Contributes big time on the boards on both ends of the floor. When in zone or in help, clogs passing lanes, making it tough for teams to operate. Tough defender who has active hands and feet. Contributes in the rebound game, boxing opponents out solidly, then going after the ball. Isn't afraid to be physical. Offensively, she is a downhill threat. Yes she can run an offense to the T, but if she has an opportunity to go get a bucket, she will go do that.
