As we continue to get closer to district play, teams all across the state have used Week 2 to sharpen their skills at various Thanksgiving tournaments. Teams have gathered at various locations to see how they match up with different styles of play. Like I mentioned in an earlier article, coaches love settings like these has they envision their clubs playing similar opponents and how they will match up against them.

Though each school/ coach has a method to their madness (or whatever you want to call it), just know that they are testing and seeing who is ready for the big stage when districts come around. Teams will take their lumps in the non conference schedule, but it is the district games that count and hold significant weight.

the garbage player of the game. This kid was big time on the boards, getting second chance opportunities that put points on the boards for her ball club. The Lady Raiders of Cleveland won the Thanksgiving Tournament at Silverdale, and Emily was a key component in that victory. She's a hard nose player who battles down low around the blocks. Not just on the offensive end, but the defensive end as well. I loved her ability to be utilized in the screen game, she was phenomenal about grabbing a rebound and finding her outlet guard to start a transition break. I already mentioned her ability to keep possessions alive by getting second chance shots. This kid is a young player who is coming into her own. Look for her to continue to grow and be an intricate part of the Lady Raiders ball club.

Jay Z has a song called “ Swagger Like Us,” this young lady has that plus more. A 3 level scoring threat that has a lot of shifitness in her game. She was the energy and her ball club fed off it. Though her team lost in the championship, she was the Little Engine that could. I love her ability to play with pace and space, get to favorable shooting shots that give her the advantage, and lock up on the defensive end. Look for her to be in the running as a district player. Solid kid who is on an upwards trajectory.

Dynamic scoring guard who has great court awareness. A multi-level scoring threat, she plays the game with poise and precision as she knifes through defenses. This kid is selfless and makes the right play. I love her passing ability, finding the open teammates, enabling them to get off an easy shot attempt. This kid does multiple things for her ball club. Look for her to be the leading catalyst and be the focal point for the Lady Bears attack.

Has benefitted from extended court time. If you don't know about this young lady, you might want to check her out. A swiss army knife, she can utilize her quick first step to attack gaps and finish at the rim or punch step into a three pointer. She is a complete two-way player, where she contributes on the defensive end as well. Ariyah has a knack for being around the ball or having the ball in her hands, either way, good things always seem to happen. This kid isn't a finished product, but look for her to continue to grow and become the next top Lady Raider to come out of Cleveland. Solid kid with a bright future.

Easy Money. The Ohio State commit is lethal. This kid can pull it from multiple spots on the floor effortlessly. She plays at her own tempo, getting to favorable spots on the floor. From the arc, she's money. From the mid-range, she's golden. Her ability to get steals and block shots, well she's the total package. One of the top kids in the state, this kid is phenomenal. Ohio State got a steal in this young lady.
