The preseason is a time known for intense tryouts and tough practices to follow. Inevitably, by the end of Thanksgiving week teams are ready to use all that energy to finally face other schools. For most teams, preseason scrimmages serve as the first barometer on what the season might hold. Legacy recently hosted a three team scrimmage, bringing in both Standley Lake and Heritage. Check out these standout players that shined throughout the day.

[player_tooltip player_id='853889' first='Sydney' last='Martin'] is one of the top 2027 players in the state of Colorado. Sydney is a swiss army knife on the basketball court - Defensively, she is capable of guarding all five positions and offensively she is a three level scorer and playmaker. Standley Lake used Sydney in a myriad of ways in this scrimmage. One play she was down low blocking a shot and the next she was stopping the lead guard in transition. Offensively, Sydney is an efficient finisher in the paint, but also has the ability to face up and attack from the perimeter or hit shots from deep. Sydney is being actively recruited by several schools and currently holds a Division 1 offer from Portland University. A team captain, Sydney will definitely be a leader for the Gators.

[player_tooltip player_id='899784' first='Olivia' last=''] was quietly one of the most dominant girls basketball players in the state of Colorado last season. Her jaw-dropping numbers of 22ppg & 14rpg as a junior helped keep Legacy competitive in most games. As good as [player_tooltip player_id='899784' first='Olivia' last=''] is, she needs more help around her to improve this year's win total. Fortunately, that help has arrived in the form of a tremendous freshman class that will have to "learn on the job". Mortensen's job description will now expand from star player to mentor. Legacy's long-term success this season and beyond will be shaped by her leadership and ability to get these fabulous freshmen up to speed, and fast. [player_tooltip player_id='899784' first='Olivia' last=''] has a full scholarship to Fort Hays State University next season.

Every team needs 3 point shooters to keep defenses honest and Mikela fits the bill for Standley Lake. Last season, Alvarado was one of the most improved players for the Gators and provided a huge spark off the bench in many games. Mikela was named Max Preps Player of the game in last year's sweet 16 after coming off the bench and knocking in 12 points and helping send the Gators to state. That confidence jump-started her to having an incredibly productive and successful summer. Mikela played with [program_tooltip program_id='712413' first='BC' last='Denver'] and became a more consistent ball handler, shooter, and leader. All of this growth has led to her receiving multiple offers to play college basketball next season.

Fresh off a very productive flag football season, Gianna Schmidt showed at the Legacy preseason scrimmages she is ready to have a big junior year for the lightning. Gianna's specialty is getting to the rim off the dribble and drawing contact. Her athletic frame and physical brand of basketball allow her to impact winning on both ends of the floor. Schmidt also demonstrated the ability to find open teammates after drawing help. Gianna will provide much needed experience, competitiveness and leadership for Legacy this year.

Kam is a 4 year starter for Standley Lake and was named as a team captain for the 2nd consecutive season. She is a "glue" player known for her positive leadership and lightning fast speed on the court. That speed is on full display every spring for the Gator track team in the 100 and 4x100 relay team. Kam is a combo guard that can handle the rock but also knock down the open 3 ball. Defensively, she flies around the court causing havoc and making it extremely tough for opposing guards. I expect Kam to have a tremendous senior season and be an impact player in the Jeffco League.
