Nogales Gets Back on Track with Big Win vs. Sahuarita

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Nogales Lady Apaches and the Sahuarita Mustangs squared off on December 13th at Sahuarita, with both teams needing to get some wins under their belt to position themselves for a Playoff run. Nogales Coach YaYa Sanchez said the early season has been rough because of a tough schedule and inconsistent play. "We have been inconsistent so far and that has been really frustrating. We need to get going and start to gel especially our Seniors," said Sanchez. Both teams have Seniors who have been pillars of the program for a long time. So the expectations are high for both teams.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It was a defensive battle for most of the game, with both teams trying to find their identity on Offense. However, in the third quarter, Nogales started to open up a big lead because of their relentless full-court press and the critical scoring from Senior Cecy Burruel. Burruel ended up with 16 Points which propelled the Lady Apaches to the 54-40 Win. Both teams are now 1-3 on the season, but both still have high expectations to make the Playoffs.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sahuarita Head Coach Eddie Ortiz said his team has some Seniors that will provide leadership and stability, but that they also are playing some younger kids, so much like Nogales, the early season has been somewhat of a struggle. "We have not played up to our expectations so far, and some of that has to do with some of the younger kids on the team playing critical roles. We hope to be hitting our stride in January so that we can position ourselves to make the Playoffs." Said Ortiz.
