We've finally hit the start of the high school girls basketball season in New Jersey, a joyous time for everyone involved to see who will emerge as stars and who will fight to be the best of the best. Let's head over to the Super Essex Conference for a look at some early season standouts. Plenty of faces, both new and ffawwewd

[player_tooltip player_id='825463' first='Rhyan' last='Watt'] - West Orange (2027)

West Orange is off to a red hot start, currently 5-1 overall this season. Their three-headed monster of [player_tooltip player_id='414431' first='Kyley' last='Gary-Grayson'], [player_tooltip player_id='782573' first='Anaya' last='Karriem'] and [player_tooltip player_id='825463' first='Rhyan' last='Watt'] are carrying the torch. However, it's Watt who is our main focus of this article, a standout sophomore leading the team in scoring, three-point shooting and steals so far. Very well-balanced player who is relishing in her opportunity to make a big impact.

[player_tooltip player_id='583759' first='Savannah' last='Seawell'] - Montclair (2025)

Speaking of hot starts, Seawell is one of the current highest-scoring players in the SEC, averaging a double-double currently with more than a block a game on average. She's continued to carry the torch down low, looking to best what she was able to do as a junior and sophomore for the Mounties. There might not be a better forward than her in the conference.

[player_tooltip player_id='981852' first='Harmoni' last='Burgess'] - Arts (2028)

It's a program filled with promising young talent and amongst the youth on this team exists freshman [player_tooltip player_id='981852' first='Harmoni' last='Burgess'], very quickly showcasing herself to be the best player on this roster. It's shown through her statistical success on the floor, averaging 12.7/4.3 with 6.6 steals a game to top it off. One of the best perimeter defenders already this season with incredibly high upside.

[player_tooltip player_id='835485' first='Addison' last='Keenan'] - Caldwell (2027)

Wow. Just wow. There isn't anything else to say about what [player_tooltip player_id='835485' first='Addison' last='Keenan'] has done in the early part of this season than wow. She's averaging a career-high 23.5 points a game and nearly three made 3-pointers a game. She's effective, yet calculated in her offensive shot/scoring selection, knowing exactly where, when and how to score in any scenario, and that's an understatement.

[player_tooltip player_id='414421' first='Kayla' last='Butler'] - Payne Tech (2025)

It's [player_tooltip player_id='414421' first='Kayla' last='Butler']'s make-or-break year, her all-important senior season for Payne Tech, looking to have that much more of a breakout year compared to a spectacular junior year for her. Don't let her size fool you at all because this is a guard who's currently averaging upwards of 20 points a game, plus double-double averages and great defense as we've seen in recent years. The perfect combination some may say.

[player_tooltip player_id='1134643' first='Matenin' last='Camara'] - Bard (2026)

Simply put, Camara was a bench player, getting limited minutes while giving limited production on the floor. That's already changed in a big way this season as she's the featured frontcourt piece for Bard, averaging a double-double out of the gates. Last season gave a glimpse into what she can do on the floor and now given the opportunity, she's showing off and dominating everyone.

[player_tooltip player_id='865919' first='Shamia' last='Fryer'] - Orange (2027)

Fryer has had nothing short of an interesting sophomore campaign so far with Orange, mainly because we're seeing a lot of scoring, but not a lot of everything else. She certainly knows how to score, averaging 16.5 points per game, and her defense had paid dividends in the early going, but while she's recording four steals a game currently, we want her to really dive deeper into her rebounding and passing on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='879566' first='Sasha' last='Resnick'] - West Essex (2025)

Resnick had her breakout season as a junior, taking on the conference by storm as she averaged a double-double rather comfortably. This season, her senior year, she's already taken things up a notch, pushing for 20 points and 20 rebounds a game, though she's closet to 17/17 as of now. Resnick is a forced to be reckoned with, a nightmare matchup for opponents and one of the best overall players in the SEC.
