Last night I had the chance to step in and watch Wapello compete against New London. This ball game was one that was back and forth during the entire evening. The New London Tigers took a narrow lead going into the second quarter but from there Wapello took over. Throughout the rest of the contest, both team's were taking each others best shot and giving their's back at them. In the end, Wapello recorded a two-point victory to help them to an overall 6-15 record moving into the second week of February.

New London may have fallen short in this contest but it wasn't due to a lack of effort by any means for the Tigers. When the last buzzer sounded on Thursday evening, the leader for the Tigers was their Senior - Forward, [player_tooltip player_id='1182020' first='Mylee' last='Miller']. Miller finished things off with 14 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 3 steals in her efforts, doing what she could in the middle. The reality is that Wapello just had too many weapons in the end and New London ran out of time. There is not much you can do about that from an outside perspective. This was a nice showing overall for Miller as an individual but that's on par for what she has been doing all Winter long. Miller is her team's leader in both PPG/RPG and that isn't going to change anytime soon by the looks of it from last night.

The leading scorer of the entire game comes to us in the form of PF/C, [player_tooltip player_id='1182033' first='Macey' last='Kuntz'] of Wapello High School. Kuntz, a 5'11 force in the paint, demonstrated her entire arsenal last night against New London in their 2-point victory. She scored at a thorough rate near the lane, she rebounded on both sides of the ball, she got to the line consistently, and she led all of the others around her by example, even if she wasn't touching the ball on a certain possession. Kuntz final stat line was 22 points (8-18) and 6 rebounds. With both programs having their main producers down-low in this battle, this truly was a solid performance by Kuntz. She put up awesome numbers and her team won, while being a leader. What more can you ask for out of someone that is only a sophomore?

The other scoring force last night for the Tigers was Junior - Shooting Guard, [player_tooltip player_id='1182038' first='Megan' last='Lee']. Lee ended things with 9 points (3-7), including going 2-5 from three and 1-2 from the charity stripe. Just like Miller, this performance is on-par for Lee from what she has done so far this season. She is putting up around 10 PPG on some solid shooting numbers, something she needs to continue with moving forward. Especially considering that she has another Varsity year coming up next season. It was obvious in this contest that Lee is who the Tigers want to shoot from deep, along with a few key others and she did her job as asked.

An individual from the Senior Class for Wapello, that seems to hold her own in the rebounding department at the Forward position is [player_tooltip player_id='1182024' first='Rachel' last='Hoeg']. Hoeg is an undersized Forward at 5'7 but she plays with heart, a motor, and some strength for her size. If you are going to be a productive undersized player, you have to have heart, guts, and a Will to mix it up. That's what I have seen out of Hoeg as of late. She might not be the biggest on the floor or even her own team but she rebounds as one of the best out there and that is noteworthy in this situation.

The tallest prospect on the floor, that has potential for her size at 6'2 is Center, [player_tooltip player_id='1143192' first='Kyndall' last='Stigge']. Stigge has the natural height, soft hands, and smarts to grow over the next few seasons as she moves forward. If that is the case, everyone who has to play Wapello should watch out because this is someone that will be tough to game-plan against with the competition level that they will have to face. Last night Stigge put up better numbers than most next to the bucket, demonstrating a glimpse of what she might be able to put together in years to come.
