PGH VHSL Finals: Lord Botetourt State Champs!

The best girls state final matchup of the classes was between these teams and they did not disappoint and here is how it played out!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Madilyn Winteton got the game started with her only field goal of the game with a spin cycle layup for two then dished an assist to Madilyn Caron for a bucket for their first five points off the game. JM was effective getting to the free throw line [player_tooltip player_id='510014' first='Kiyah' last='Lewis'] took all their first quarter free throws going 5-6 and Melanie Johnson hit a big deep three in the quarter to set the tone and give JM a 14-10 lead after one quarter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>JM started the 2nd quarter on a roll with two buckets from [player_tooltip player_id='239430' first='Daysha' last='Salgado'] which included a spin move in the post for two and next possession was followed by two [player_tooltip player_id='510014' first='Kiyah' last='Lewis'] buckets of her own capped by great and 1 floater. Lewis also found Harmony Johnson for an Assist giving JM their biggest lead of the game of 13 at the 6:14 mark in the 2nd quarter. Freshman Addision Naff had a big time drive to the cup and hit a deep three and added a free throw to help stop the bleeding for 6 big points in the quarter. Madilyn Winteron assisted on two baskets to cut into the JM lead to only 6 at halftime!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The third quarter is where the game changed and the balance of the title hopes shifted. [player_tooltip player_id='1172837' first='Abby' last='Kingery'] had 1 of her 4 steals in the game that led to a breakaway layup. After seven straight points JM could only get a free throw in the first 4 minutes of the quarter. Meanwhile Madelyn Caron had a 7!point quarter and got a great left hand full court bounce pass from Madilyn Winteron which was one her game high 7 Assist. What was a cap to a dominant quarter&nbsp;which they out scored JM 16 to 5.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='510014' first='Kiyah' last='Lewis'] got the 4th started with a much needed and 1 basket but that was followed by a Madilyn Winteton led a fast break no-look&nbsp;pass to Jaiden Dann for 2 and that was followed by a great back door cut pass to Madelyn Caron to give LB a 39-34 lead. Melanie Johnson &amp;&nbsp; Alexia Robinson stopped the run with some big time three point shots but that was quickly answered by [player_tooltip player_id='1172837' first='Abby' last='Kingery'] on the other end.
