She brought the same winning mentality to the court on Friday morning. Sure there was the 10 points scored in the first half, a total she would finish at. But it was her defense down the stretch that would be most pivotal. In the closing moments, she raced down the court to take a charge. A few possessions later, it was her deflection that forced a jump ball. Then with Caddo up 3 and the clock ticking down, it was Nichols who blocked a game tying three point attempt. And then she blocked the follow up three shortly after. A double block! Had a full stat line of 16 points and 8 rebounds. Was a physical finisher and battler at the rim. And on defense. Left it on the court for the tradition rich program, and was fun to watch in a couple playoff viewings. Gibson ran circles around the Okarche defense. At times it was pure speed leading to paint touches, other times it was her shifty gears and juking out defenders with her handles. Got wherever she wanted on the court, scored a game high 18 points. Much of it coming at the rim. Dropped dimes with accurate cross court passes, or slipping passes to teammates at the rim. Especially to close out the first half of today's win on a personal 5-0 run. Drilled an above the break three, then ran the floor hard in transition for another score. Goombi repeated her transition heroics during a second half where the Lady Pirates cruised to the title game.
