As I write this in the early afternoon on Friday, I'm sitting on a well-worn sofa at Blue Monday Coffeehouse in Northfield, a venerable gathering spot I've enjoyed for more than 30 years in this comfy college town south of the Twin Cities. By the time you read this, there's a very good chance that [player_tooltip player_id='205298' first='Jordan' last='Ode'] will have walked on stage at the historic Grand Theatre just down the street to accept the Minnesota Miss Basketball award for 2025. That tells you what type of year the senior from Maple Grove had. We'll play second fiddle to that career-crowning achievement to bestow a little honor of our own: Prep Girls Hoops Class 4A Player of the Year.

Jordan is the consummate pro, a disciplined competitor who will never be outworked on or off the floor. Whether we're talking about time in the weight room, hours spent on skill development, or dedication to her team, Ode has given her all to get to this point. She is a true student of the game, an elite athlete who is always looking for ways to get better. The results speak for themselves.

Maple Grove carried a 19-game win streak into their second consecutive State Tournament appearance. Ode scored 27 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in their opening-round win over White Bear Lake. She went 30 and 5 in a semifinal victory against Lakeville North. Unfortunately for the Crimson, Ode's 26-and-12 performance in the championship game was not quite enough to hold off a surging squad from Hopkins. That doesn't diminish the fact that Ode had an unbelievable season and an outstanding five-year varsity career.

Last season, Jordan became Maple Grove's all-time scoring leader. This year she topped 2,000 career points. Last year she averaged around 21 points per game. This year she improved to 25, the leading number among Class 4A competitors statewide. The Crimson had a stacked lineup with all five starters having made college commitments, but it was Ode who drove the bus. She is a physically gifted, highly skilled performer who can handle the ball at an elite level, distribute with the best and shoot it from distance with a high rate of success. She can also defend all five positions. Ranked #1 in the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2025, Ode now moves on to Michigan State. She will most definitely be missed.

[player_tooltip player_id='558627' first='Erma' last='Walker'] – 2027 forward, Hopkins

Erma has been a big part of the Hopkins lineup since the 8th grade. This year, however, everything went to a new level just when the team needed her the most. As the season progressed, Erma's impact continued to grow culminating in an MVP performance at the State Tournament. She averaged 22 points and over 7 rebounds per game at State. That included a 28-point, 8-rebound performance in the championship game where she overcame a painful ankle injury to lead the Royals to the win over Maple Grove. It was Hopkins' 9th state championship. One of the most impressive advances in Erma's game this winter was her growth as a leader on and off the court. With two seasons of high school basketball remaining, there's no telling how much better the big forward can be.
