Day One PGH Victory Region Kickoff Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Tonight, I started my AAU season on the first day of the PGH Victory Region Kick-Off. There were only three game slots tonight, but there were plenty of solid kids to see at Wintrust. In the three games I saw, there were a few kids I wanted to highlight. So I'll have eight kids I'll discuss and get posted tomorrow morning.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='992498' first='Jordan' last='Maselter']</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After only having five kids, it was an uphill battle as the game went on, but I thought Maselter was a solid ball-handling presence for Let it Rain. She started the scoring for her team and did a solid job putting pressure on the rim. She plays with a high basketball IQ and has some things to work with moving forward. The Sun Prairie native showed plenty of positive traits this evening.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='914983' first='Beanie' last='Thompson']</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The motor Thompson plays with is always appealing. I thought she did an excellent job competing around the basket. Thompson's a plus athlete at 5'9 and will rebound with anyone. Thompson finished around the rim at a high level. She's an understated kid who doesn't play with much emotion, but plenty of coaches would love a kid like her on their roster.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='533062' first='Tay' last='Maass']</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Maas has the physicality to play high-level basketball at the next level. The Appleton native went against a few D1-level talents and held her own tonight. Some of her shots may not have fallen, but she can play against D1 kids and hold her own. She may be slightly undersized for a post-kid, but her motor and power are enough to land somewhere competitive. As more people come and watch her play, more people will love who she is as a player. She'll be an undervalued kid because of her size, but wherever she lands, have a handful of happy coaches with her in their locker room.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Riley Orozco</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Pink Elite U15 team had Orozco start the game for them, and she caught a rhythm early. Orozco has a funky shot, but when shots go in the basket, there is nothing to complain about. She played confidently and took some pull-up jumpers in the first few minutes that fell, and after that, there wasn't much slowing her down, especially when the defense went to a 2-3 zone. There is plenty of room for her to grow these next few years.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
