I had a few days to highlight some 17U standouts over the week. Now, I'd like to look at other kids who played well in games I watched. We should have another day or two of content from the Legacy Region Kick-Off.

I love watching Gary shoot the ball. Ever since I saw her at a Fall League before the last high school season, the confidence she shoots with makes me think each shot she takes is going in. Gary brings calmness to the floor, and no situation seems to faze her. In a game where her team was getting beat, she entered the game after I sat down and calmly made a pair of triples. The Madison native doesn't play with much emotion. Gary takes care of her business. There's room to grow, but she takes the game seriously, so I don't worry about her improving.

[player_tooltip player_id='992484' first='Ambria' last='Fischer']

The more I watch Fischer, the more I like her. I thought she made plays with the ball at the Freshman Showcase last fall, and she did in New Berlin this weekend. She's quicker than I remember and showed some skill to make some plays through traffic. Another thing I loved about watching her was picking up a talented guard full-court defensively, which is something to behold. Sometimes, she got beat because she was defending one-on-one for 50 feet, but she stuck to her hip most of the time. She's an energetic defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='1204367' first='Evelyn' last='Hoffman']

A new name I learned in New Berlin was [player_tooltip player_id='1204367' first='Evelyn' last='Hoffman']. The 6'1 forward has grown over the last few years and has excellent length. She used her length on the defensive end of the floor to make plays and made life challenging for kids trying to throw passes over the top of the 24:up defense. She still has room to improve her offensive skillset, but you can't teach her size and length. Every AAU season, if you look hard enough, new faces will catch your attention, and Hoffman did that this past weekend. I'm eager to see how she can continue to improve this AAU season.

[player_tooltip player_id='881307' first='Kylee' last='Buttchen']

The 5'5 guard from Milton made me feel vindicated this weekend. I told a few coaches about Buttchen, and they came away from this weekend impressed by what she did. Buttchen is an undersized two-guard who can create off the dribble and play the lead guard role if needed. She scored the ball well and used her motor to make plays on the defensive end of the floor. Before her AAU career ends next summer, she'll generate interest from coaches at the next level.
